who out there is a mechanic i would like to know how hard is it to change a powerhead and i would like to know where to get a book that tells you everything that you need to know to rebuild a engine. what special tools do you have to have and how much it would be to have a pro do it i live in kansas and i dont trust anyone around reason is that one shop is where i bought the boat from so he new that it would eventually blow ive had the boat for about a year and 2 is i had them put on a vro pump and had to take it back to retest because the buzzer still went off the first week i took it out and i was put at the bottom of the line after paying. so my choices are limited it is a johnson venom 200 1997

Re: boat mechanics

Well, I'm a novice mechanic on boat motors, but I'm doing a complete rebuild on a 1993 60hp right now. I have basic car tools and have worked on car engines in the past, but never a boat engine. I've found it pretty much the same as a car, just smaller and a bit easier. The manual you can find on ebay quite easily, that's where I got mine. Here's one:

Hope that helps a little.

You don't have to look far for manuals.
iBaots has Solec manuals.
I have found Amazon to be the best deal especially with free shipping.

That is really amazing. Not one capital, only one punctuation mark in that whole post, and that is a period in the middle of a sentence!

Stay away from the Seloc and Clymer manuals. If you want to rebuild you need the OEM Service Manual.

if you motor is newer than 1996 you will have to go to the dealer for a OEM service manual, as JB said, seloc and clymer are usless for a rebuild.

Nah, but I sure would like to encourage posters to make their posts easily readable.
