" I won't be wronged; I won't be insulted and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I require the same thing of them "

A whole generation grew up to those words.

Never saw him in politics, but he did know how to romance the ladies.

There was a story going around that some thieves rode into his ranch and cleaned out his house of his gun collection and such in Montana.

He got his stuff back and they never heard nothin of them fellas again.

Now there is a real role model, where are they now.

For those that did not have the privelidge of growing up with this American Icon, he is still one of the top grossing actors of all times. He even still tops the charts of actors departed.

That would make me think that there is some widespread appeal to him.

He just had a way of delivering a line. The war pictures and westerns are not made like that any more.

In the old days a person would get shot, grab his chest and fall off a building. No blood and no exit wounds. It was about the actor and not the special effects that made the movie.

another one was James Arness. Matt Dillon- Gunsmoke 20 years. Arness is also the older brother to Peter Graves - mission impossible. Arness was also the tallest leading man in history, standing 6' 7 ". don't forget Miss Kitty. Arness and Wayne were also good friends.

Wayne turned down the part in gunsmoke, thats how Arness got the part.

That was a sad day when he passed.

Eastwood another great actor. Go ahead make my day.

Yes chief, I am 57 and have probably watched (almost) every duke movie made. To refer back to the opening thread, I like his statement "You cant write a writ for Rat..you just have to stomp him out" or something close to that.
I guess I am still tryin to figure you guys out. It seemed strange to me to come across a thread about John Wayne in a boating forum, but I do remember him in a photo on a boat with a Captains cap or something!!??
Then I read the heading Fireside Chat and discovered we were just randomly talking about different things of interest.
Actually, my ex wife and son are both great fans of the Duke. They had posters, cups, clocks , sculptures and bronze hangings of him. As well as Elvis Presely. I agree in his pholosophy of an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Give me a while and I will "come around" and put up a more intellegent response. Thanks for the wake up, Charlie

My favorites:
John Wayne
Gary Cooper
Charleton Heston
Gregory Peck
Jimmy Stewart
Costner's Westerns, too (Dances with wolves, i.e.)

I loved John Wayne's voice. One of a kind!:)
