It seem as though many of the used boats around 1997-2002 or so, didn't have the removable carpet options. Is this too much of a requirement for used boat? I figure this is a must have for boating. Am I missing something?

I think I might be missing something too. What are you trying to say?

Re: fiberglass flooring

I'm wondering whether I should remove the removable carpet as a "must have" requirement in my boat search as they tend to only appear on high end used boats or newer boats.

I'm looking at a chaparral, 1996. Even it didn't have the snap in carpet.

Were are you located. I have a 1996 Wellcraft Eclipse with snap out carpet for sale right now. It is a 19.5 foot open bow ski and fish boat.

What are your other requirements, my boat has a 4.3L 4 barrel and can pull skiers and tubers all day, it was perfect for my family, just the right sized motor for this boat. Top speed is around 45MPH but we hardly ever went that fast, it is propped for hole shot now and feels like a V8 out of the hole. Not sure if you are looking for a watersports or fishing boat but this is really more of a watersports boat although you could use it for fishing.

How did it go the wrong way, sounded like he was having a hard time finding what he was looking for and I inquired about his location. Sounds like I may have a boat of interest to him that is why I was asking. The boat market in the PNW is very different from the rest of the country with regards to inventory and values. Not saying we do not have an overabundance of inventory but boats do tend to sell for a bit more up here for some reason. Sorry if I offended anyone.

I saw your ad yesterday. The carpet didn't look like the conventional snap on/off. You must have custom made it?

while i don't think it's "too much of a requirement" i don't think it's a must have item. many boats don't have snap in carpet. i think the idea behind snap in is so ya can remove it for cleaning and/or drying. water saturated carpet leads to mildew, rotten wood and the likes.
as for not having snap in. ya just gotta keep it dry. if it does get wet, ya need to dry it out. my carpet aint snap in. mostly it is dry. but it has gotten wet too. like in saturated even. in that case, i left it uncovered till it was dry. after that, the cover went back on. always cover a boat.

Re: fiberglass flooring

The carpet in my boat is snap in although it is not the original. It is about a year old as the original carpet was starting to fray. Personally I would not buy a boat that does not have snap in carpet for the primary reason that it is a lot easier to keep clean. Plus there is a much higher chance of not getting rot in the boat because of wet carpet standing on the fiberglass and finding a path to some wood. Plus the snap in carpet is easy to replace as you just order up a bolt of whatever color you want and cut it out and sew a piece of trim on the edges and you are done. I still need to install the snaps on mine but that is an hours work at the most.

Help! I have a 1973 Truflite trihull. They were manufactured in Knoxville Tennessee. I'm curious if there is a way to find out if I have water in the hull without doing too much damage to the floor. The drain plug is in the compartment where the fuel tanks are. I was also curious if I can install another drain plug for the hull. Any help would be great. Thanks

Re: fiberglass flooring

I just bought a 1995 Monterey Montura 196. Talked the guy down from 5995 to 3900. Boat has a 5.0 liter Volvo penta sx drive. The prop shaft is bent and the floor has to be completely redone and some of the stringers as well and the tank bulk heads. Had no idea the floor was in this bad of shape when I bought it. How bad did I get screwed on the deal. just wondering. Going to do the floor myself to save money for the prop shaft. The boat itself is beautiful, interior is in great shape.

Welcome aboard! This was an old thread. You should start a new one with questions on your boat.
