Garage :( No Garage :( I have a small storage shed that houses 100 tons of stuff in a tiny metal shed.

I just have to be patient.

Bob i work under the same situation, except for the snow. 12x12 shed, 8 ft walls crammed with tools and boat stuff.

Re: 1966 Starcraft 16' closed bow

I have the same deal here, only my shed is a bit bigger but its packed so full of boat parts and toys I can barely walk inside to get to my tool box. On the up side, I take the big stuff to my shop to do, but I can't keep them all there and anything that I start, I have to finish right away to clear the floor for the next day. The boat has to be kept movable. If I paint, I do it early on Saturday, and move the boat early Monday morning back into the back store house.

I've been contemplating one of those silver tarp garages for working in the rain at home, and for summer storage of my main boat. My concern is how long it would last with all the trees I have around here dropping branches. We usually don't get much snow lately but we got over a foot Sunday night. It took me 4 hours to dig out the yard and unload all the boat covers. It rained first so there was a lot of weight, my one boat had a steel tower that supported the center of the tarp, that collapsed under the weight of the snow. No damage to the boat, I just had to make a new stand and shovel out the tarp. The boat stayed dry since the tarp held.

Re: 1966 Starcraft 16' closed bow

Hey everyone. I just picked up a Starcraft boat.

Not sure on the year. The Model is Jetstar and the HIN is 960317

What year would this be 69?

I got some picks to share before I start nickle and dime this to death LOL

It has a Evinrude 18HP motor and it needs some work on the latch system for the motor lock. Looks like they beat it up pretty good.

I can post some pics I hope?

The Motor is a 1971 18hp Evinrude.

Needs some work on the exahust housing. The bracket in the photo is trashed and I even think there is missing parts?? I found some excellent sites with parts breakdowns, so I got a place to start.

How hard is it to take apart that section? I know I need to replace the housing,.

Nice boat MRamsden. You'd be best to start you own thread in the Evinrude/Johnson section about your motor questions and one in the Restoration section for any boat questions. You'll get better answers that way. These are great solid boats and you're sure to get lots of enjoyment out of it. However, that's going to be a SLUG with that motor on it. I have an 85 on the same hull.

Maybe this will help you getting a new info plate. http://www.fishandboat.com/forms_boating.htm.

I just bought a 1967 caravelle that didnt come with a plate either.
So Im trying to find out the model and all that on mine also.
mine is a 16 ft also. it looks like it came as a package deal.
ol green boat and the old Johnson 100 hp with the same color paint.
( yes the old motor runs haha)
That cool you got a old new paper add to see what yours was!
If anyone can give me any info I sure would be grateful!
Or tell me how to start a new post!

Re: 1966 Starcraft 16' closed bow

About time :p Well I have been collecting things and have about 6 honest projects going at once and maybe a few I have even lost track of. It rained here today but I had to get started.

Decided to rip out the old decking and found a few things. Most of the missing stainless steel screws were hiding below the decking. When I pulled the first piece from the bow section there was a huge hole in the styrofoam and I thought some liquid got spilled .... it looked melted.

When I removed the rest of the wood the styrofoam was full of holes  upon further examination I realized that some critter had lived there. I even found a small pile of nuts (a bit out of focus). It was interesting to see how the mice (or whatever) had burrowed towards the keel but that center stip of aluminum kept them from completing their neighborhood. I guess the styrofoam kept them full and warm but not too many calories

Re: 1966 Starcraft 16' closed bow

The stringer arangement may be a clue to the model?
My 1963 has three stringers showing at the rear of the floor, they stop about 14" short of the transom, then there's a couple short pieces that are just tacked down to support the two sections of floor on each side of the bilge pump.

My 1974 16' SS has only two stringers and nothing down the center.

The 1963 has a nearly flat bottom at the stern, while the 1974 is V shaped all the way to the transom.

It's starting to look to me like they built two distinct different hulls, or made a major change at some point over the years. I've looked at several older models which were flat bottomed like mine, all were pre-1965 or so models, in various sizes ranging from 14 to 16'. My 1974 is a bit wider, and a bit deeper overall too. The transom top is far different in shape and width as well. The splashwell is much deeper or longer on the 1963 also. The shorter splashwell is one of the reasons I favor the 1974, its got at least an extra foot of interior space inside.

Re: 1967 Starcraft 16' closed bow

Easy to make that a walkthrough.. I'll have pictures of how it's done on my 91 Monark Legend thread, (not that you need em). I should be at that point about the time you thaw out.

Let me know how the steering is on that boat. I have a Teleflex Rack with helm and cable that you can have for the shipping costs. It's for an 18 but you can have the cable shortened.

I am new to this forum, this post actually made me join. I have, what i think is a 1964 Starcraft, it's 15' long. I got the boat when i was in about 6th grade, and ran it till about 9th grade. The lower unit, of a '74 merc500, froze and busted that winter. Just finished my second year of college and I just bought an '86 mercury 50 hp today for it. If you still have that Teleflex setup, I would be more than willing to pay the shipping for it to put on my boat. I am redoing the floor hopefully this week I am determined to have it on the water in the next few weeks. Its a cool boat and cool getting compliments from people driving 35 footers.

Rf, the brochures say that in 64 Starcraft started making what they called the Deep Vee on four models- the Chieftan, Sunchief, Starchief, and the Holiday.

In 65 they came out with the Concave Vee and basically, depending on the model, you got either the Deep Vee or the Concave Vee.

I use this info to help folks figure out what model they have sometimes.

North Beach has identified this Starcraft as a Nassau. Thank You sir! Some PO did a slop paint job and covered the original color but the mystery is solved. :D

Sorry jwhirl, lakerorbay beat you to it. I loaded him up with all my extra's a couple of weeks ago. You might want to give him a PM and see if he's decided to use it or not.
