Re: 19?? Evinrude 35 HP?

Please don't get paranoid about it jumping gear.
You'll know if a problem arises.
If the previous owner just replaced the lower, hopefully you
won't see that problem.

Take her for ride and report back how it goes.

It may not jump out of gear, but you may feel a sound/vibration like you're hitting a stump. Usually this will occur under load at higher speeds.

I am pretty sure the motor is pretty sound. The guy sounded very honest he let me look at every thing. I will be picking it up within the next hr or so and I am so excited. I'll get some pics of the serial number when I get it. Thanks guys for all the information. He did tell me it wasnt fast but it did get the boat from point A to Point B. SO I am thinking in the long wrong I might need a longshaft for the boat. Is there a easy way to tell if your boat needs a longshaft? But then again I am not looking for speed either.

Alright just got back. its to dark for pics but that area that looks like a crack is not it was just a shadow. Looks great back there no flex when lowing the motor and its hard as a rock.

now I pulled the cover off and it was dark but the only numbers I found where these.

It was on a circle area.

I also would like to know if my motor should squirt water out of a hole? Ive heard older motors would do it down load under the water?

F_R was right on, 1959 35 manual here. http://www.outboardbooks.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=models.main&year=1959&ID=60627

i was talking about the motor not the transon. looks like the transom bracket where the tilt pin, goes is broken.

the yellow arrow is the Exhaust Relief port, you should get some water from there at idle, just show the impeller is working.

Blue arrow is the exhaust, most of the water exits with the exhaust.

Green arrow is the cooling water pick up. the motor has to be test run in a barrel, you cannot use the muff attachment to the water hose on this motor.

ya thats weird this motor u cant really use the muffs on for some reason. i had mine in shallow water when i tested it out but i had the muffs on to keep the sand out but i lowered it so the intake was in the water. but i couldnt test out the shifting since it was to shallow

good luck, keep us posted. also get the water level up to the white line, or you will burn up the impeller, do not rev over 1500 rpms.

Re: 19?? Evinrude 35 HP?

Well I figred up the boat today. Fired up rather easy but I shut it down soon after. Only because it just knocked tons of water out of the drum and I dont wanna risk it. So I am going to go down to a lake and give it a shot in a couple of days. Just a test day drive it around for awhile. One thing I did find on the boat was the old set of plugs. I looked at them and they looked pretty good.

when i ran my motor [exact same one] it kicked alot of the water out... but kept the hose on the side and idled it for a while.

Hopefully i'll get to run this weekend

Re: 19?? Evinrude 35 HP?

Ok just to give some more information I guess its motor related in a way. I was told when I bought the boat it had some play in the steering no big deal really. So I went out today and lowered the motor and turned it left to right. Well I can turn the motor to the left(Turning steering wheel left) and it goes pretty much all the way then when I turn the steering wheel right the motor doesnt seem to go as far as to the right as it did to the left if that makes sense.

Heres a little more info on the boat 1966 Hiwaypro runabout closed bow 14 FT.

If it's jumping out of gear, it's most likely just an adjustment needed in the shift linkage. Many have wasted money rebuilding lower units because of this and the problem still persists. Most of the time, when lower units are rebuilt, there really isn't must wrong with what is down below, but just where the shifter adjustment is. Also make sure the shift linkage at the bellcrank is still good and tight. These tend to loosen up as well.

I see that a bit. The guy said some thing about a pivoting standoff and he thinks it needs a sold standoff? Not really sure. ANy way I think its cable. A cable goes through what the guy called a standoff and it locks down on a metal piece of the cable. Then it goes through that and when I turn it left it extendes a bit and when I turn it the other way it retracts. Just doesnt like the cable or what ever is long.

I'll tell you what guys tomorrow i'll take video of me turning it and showing you guys the key points and maybe I can get it fixed?
