you need to pull the cable tight and re-clamp it... it sounds as if the cable isnt tight enough on one side..

Regarding the steering issue, I cannot tell from the posted picture what system you have. However, Teleflex has been the industry standard for many years. Try their website for matching what you have. Their website also has an online library of installation instructions which should help you with the adjustments needed on your boat/motor.

Good luck!

From what I gather on the steering, you have the "cable" type that is the draw back and forth as you have stated; it is long in one direction. The "real" cable system is like clothesline cable w/pullys and that's not what I am seeing in pic.

Should be like jam nuts on that arm that you adjust if I remember right. My brother uses that system on his '57 John Jav. Mines the laundry type.

It could be like"clogged" w/old grease on that bar or inside the sheath. Dirt dobber nest on the rack & pinion under the dash?, Give me a few more minutes and I'll make up something else!!? Shouldn't be much, ...you hope!

Its like the it extenders just fine but when I turn it the other way to make it turn the otherway Its like the cable withdraws all the way back and it cant go any further. I shot some video but it wasnt what I wanted its raining bad. I'll get some pics though.

Heres is a youtube link to the video I shot. Its not the best and I am not sure if u can see that it goes further one way then the other. But it might give u a idea.

ur video the steering looks like the nut is loose?

U mean the rusted looking bar that goes up to the motor? thats what I thought it has a few bushings/washers and its pretty tight. The guy told me it had some thing to do with the bracket that holds the cable inplace think he called it a stand off.

Yea there is a metal piece simliar to the one in the above link but much shorter. Its attached to the cable and its only like 3 inches long. The one in the link shows a big one I wonder if that will allow me to adjust it more?

EDIT: I just wanted to add the 3 inch metal piece is inside of the clamp.

also that long connecting rod is totally wrong. i would actually recomended getting one of these , the make it so much simpler. this mounts directly under your motor on the transom, the cable goes thru it, and you use the long adapter arm to steer the motor. this one is set up for left hand steering, right hand the cable just comes from the other side.
get rid of all that flexing crap.

TD,that one from boatstore usa says it is for port side steering only. I bought mine from the same store, but it is made by TG Marine.... can be used for port or starboard steering.
I agree though, this unit makes a good safe installation, alot better than the sloppy linkage in the video.

unless they have changed in the last year, you can take the xerk grease fitting out, unscrew the tube, and turn it around, for right handle steering. i did it for my last restore. if not just turn it over.

i ran a 59 35hp for 2 years in 06 and 07, did coils and points when i got it, then never had a problem. run 24/1, dosent smoke so bad once it warms up, people at the ramp were always impressed with 2 pull starting. the only thing i didnt like was it was kinda loud. definitly built to last.

Re: 19?? Evinrude 35 HP?

Well Today is the day I get to take it on a test spin. I bought a battery at a battery place hooked it up and the starter spun the motor a little bit and then it sounded like the motor binded well I started to think O CRAP but then I said ok clean the terminals and check the charge on the battery. Battery volts were low probably because it set on the shelf for awhile(I bought used) So I charged it up and BROOOM the motor is alive Hahaha.

i'll let u guys know how the test spin went later on.
