Your framing is looking great. Keep up the good work. My boat is a closed bow runabout but I've been doing more fishing. I'd love to have a set up like those old Terrys. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Re: Terry ABF floor repair/rebuild

Thanks, ezmobee :D. I am a quandry right now- I used the 3m 5200 marine adhesive to glue in the stringers and the container says 48 hours to tack free and 7 days to cure ( at 70.0 f-50% humidity) I have it at 80.0 f to help the resin kick and my question is- Can I go ahead and glass the stringers in now, or do I have to wait? :( ( for the adhesive to finish curing) I know the safe thing to do is to wait- but I would like to progress on this if possible -what say ye?

Re: Terry ABF floor repair/rebuild

Update : I called 3M and talked to a technical advisor. I was amazed- a *LIVE* person answered the phone !!! without going thru all the BS of voice prompts, etc. very, very helpfull folks- long story short- gotta wait the 7 days for a full cure. Interesting, it requires a good bit of humidity to cure properly so if you are using artificial heat to maintain temperature, make shure the humidity doesn't go to low. I kitted most of my glass to wait out the time but I am looking to what is next, etc. I was wondering about if I should re-install the railing on the cap. I saved it and although it is worn it would reinstall ok. I kinda like it but I am thinking it would look cleaner without it. it would be helpfull if I needed to pull myself back into the boat if a sudden gust of gravity overtook me and I was thrown in the drink :D

Re: Terry ABF floor repair/rebuild

Progress this last week has been a snails' pace -or slower- dang *job* keeps getting in the way of the important things ;) . I finally got all the pieces of floor cut out and fitted, then glassed the bottoms and sealed the edges. After trimming the floor pieces, it was time for the good stuff- Reinstalling the floor !! I am so happy to get this far. I used 5200 to seal the edges and across the tops of the stringers. downside is since I did not remove the forward casting deck, I had to slide the front and middle sections in place (from the rear) which might have moved the sealant around- I dunno-Just the way it had to be done. after it was in place, stainless steel screws where installed to get in in tight.

Really great work. Looks very solid. That thing is going to last a seriously long time.

Good to see another Terry rebuild. I am working on stringers/floor/transom as well, but on a a 1978 Terry 460 cm right now. Your boat is looking good. There is a lot more solid structure under that ABF hull than the 460cm hull design I have.

Re: Terry ABF floor repair/rebuild

Thanks guys- I am happy to be this far. It felt so good to finally screw down the last floor panel. Of course, it still has to be glassed down. :) downside is that I am wanting to get out on the water really bad :( . upside is that next year I will definitely be ready for spring.:D Progress has been kinda slow/nill for the last three days as I have been too worn out to work on it after work. But, I also have been waiting for the 5200 to cure anyway. I could have been pre-kitting my glass but that should happen tomorrow. I need to find me some extra help for this weekend as working alone sucks when you are working large areas of glass.I think I will just use one layer of csm followed by one layer of woven roving then 6 oz cloth for the top. I am going to tie the transom into the floor with 1708 knytex biaxial ( allready has the 1708 on the transom tied into the floor, sides, and the stringers) I will post more pics.

I hear you there. Last year I didn't get my boat into the water till darn near the end of June due to my transom project taking longer than expected (my son was less than a year old then if that explains it). However it was great this Spring to be able to pretty much pull it out of storage and drop it in the water and go.

Wow, what a thread! Thanks for all the pictures. I agree about 3M. I called them with the exact same question you had about 5200. Didn't have to press #28Q to speak English. Talked to someone WHO KNEW WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT in less than 60 seconds. Thats the way it should be, but how rare theses days. Next time I'm deciding between two products I'll be buying the 3M.

Re: Terry ABF floor repair/rebuild

More progress: As last seen, I used concrete blocks to weight down the edges of the floor to make shure they were bonded properly on the edges since clamping was not possible there. I have gotten it tabbed in all the way around, a layer of resin on the wood and then a layer of 1.5 oz csm next is the woven roving I am still kitting it
