I completely rebuilt the power trim assy/motor/cylinders with what was available. Some parts were no longer available and I had to make my own( some bearings) I really could have used a new armature ( just a fuzz out of balance) it is a little noisy but livable and it works. The pump portion was a roll of the dice-it would not work very good(slow to no lifting)bad news was- they don't offer it anymore and I could not find a rebuild kit( other than o rings) but-----drum roll here--- I was able to score a BRAND NEW PUMP!!!! New old stock- I did some trading and some cash to get it!!! the trim sender windings were toast so I just removed them from the spool on the left cylinder- I am not too concerned with having a trim gauge as the gauge I have is raggedy looking anyway. This is the calico pump which is very rare- I was bidding on a used one)pump, brackets, cylinders) on the 'bay many months ago, it was used, cleaned for photos and they claimed "it worked when removed". I thought man,300.00 should get it-WRONG!! it went for about 850.00:eek:

Nice work. I looked FOREVER to try to find a working TnT unit for my '73 Johnson 85. They never went for less than $400 (and some of those were in unknown condition). I never did get one. I'm loving having it on my '81.

Re: Terry ABF floor repair/rebuild

Well- it has been some time passed and I have used the boat many times but, never reached a level near what I would call "finished" . I have been using some things as they were because of money, time, motivation , but I have been doing some things here and there to get it what I would call "done" , the driver and passenger seats I bought used and had them re-done and custom embroidered, I have the aluminum panels sheared and bent to make my custom gas tank, and I will hopefully get it to get a new windshield made (maybee this week?)and then off for a new custom cover. pics to follow.

Re: Terry ABF floor repair/rebuild

That has got to be the most A M A Z I N G thread i've seen. Im sort of new, but have been popping in and out of forum for the last 9 months or so. Mainly, looking into various projects i want to tackle. I recently acquired (freebie) a 1977 Terry ABF 5.2m with trailer, from a neighbor who had it sitting in his backyard for the last 5+ yrs. I bugged him so much about it, he finally said " agghhh, just take it". My tenage boys (reason why I wanted it) were ecstatic. I had no idea what i was getting into, you see, apart from sitting forever, there were actually weeds growing out of it, carpet was torn, seats needed replacing, steering was frozen, etc. I took it to my local Johnson mechanic/neighbor for a diagnosis. After a week or so, he finally called with the good news/bad news. The 85hp ran like a charm, didnt overheat, had good compression on all 4 and idled smoothly. The bad news wasnt too bad. Steering was frozen and trim was bad. After dishing out $400 bucks for parts and labor, boys and I were screaming up and down our lake. Other minor stuff can wait. Thanks for all those pics !!

It has been some time since I have been here. I have some things I have done to the boat since I posted last. Besides fishing,I finally got the gas tank built and installed. The original tilt and trim crapped out two weeks ago ( pump froze up, took out electric motor) but, I have been working on a replacement alternative since the calico pump was not that good to begin with and even harder to get parts for. I am retrofitting to a later style Johnson between the brackets tilt and trim. I searched here to see if anyone did this conversion but I didn't find anything. If there is please post away.
