Re: DT85 chirping?

I think I heard that the chirping is low oil in the VRO...solid tone is overheat.

I do not know the motor, but this is what I remember.

VRO is the oil tank where you add two-stroke oil so you do not have to pre-mix your fuel.

Forget VRO.. that is Johnson/Ev land. If your engine hasn't been run for a year or so you need to get the carbs cleaned out. The Chirping you hear is very characteristic of a lean condition on those motors which means you have at least one carb partially clogged and you WILL blow a cylinder if you keep running it. Put the key away until you get the carbs cleaned or you will regret it.

Too lean...1 turn out works best for most 75-85 Suzuki's.

That setting is a starting adjustment, what works for one motor may not work for another, plus there is the altitude and temperature to consider.

When you cleaned the carbs, did you remove the jets and soak them in carb cleaner? Did you spray all of the tiny orifaces with compressed air and make sure they were clear?

Re: DT85 chirping?

cool on 1 turn i never messed with the adjustments on the water but i will. as far as cleaning the jets i did not soak them i just sprayed them real good with carb spray and used air hose to blow them off, they didnt seem to be clogged or the best i could tell. i did not install a kit i just removed everything and cleaned.Having the adjustment set to 1 1/2 turns making it to lean will that casue engine to chirp like that? I never noticed the chirp when i backed off the throtle very slow its only when im running it wide open and go directly to netural that it would chirp. The enging seemed to be running fine other than the chirping noise. But if you guys thinks carbs need rebuilt i will have that done by someone thats knows more about it than me :)..Thanks

Re: DT85 chirping?

should i try resetting the carb adjustments b4 taking to the shop? like i said i have them set to 1 1/2 turns out and by this not being set correctly would that cause the chirping also? thanks
