Like Bond-o said, there should be a plastic tube running down the transom that hooks into a pitot, which is a plastic contraption hanging off the bottom of the transom. The speedometer operates on air pressure being forced through the tube to the back of the speedometer as water passes through a small hole in the pitot. It is common for the pitot to get broken off or plugged up. Let us know what you find.

Our older bowrider, also a BL, had this problem. A mouse actually got up into the gunnel and chewed the plastic tube in two.

Don't waste your time trying to fix it. Get a GPS if you really need to know how fast you are goingl. Even when the pitot tube type are working they are not very accurate.

Add me to the list. I have a 1997 Bayliner Capri 1704 with a Force 90 outboard.

There is no pitot tube that I can see. I traced the tube from the speedometer to the back and it seems to go into the motor. Is this right? Maybe I mis-traced. There are no holes or any indication that there ever was a anything attached to the back/bottom of the boat where something would have been attached.

Still, speedometer does not work and I don't know where togo from here.

Any ideas? thoughts?
