Re: Worst time of year for us

Boy, this is good stuff. I believe we can all relate.
Today 7AM I was sanding the 18' Starcraft before work.
Last Sunday at 9 PM and still did not finish the new transom. Thousands of dollars later and many hrs. of working on the weekends instead of being on the water is a struggle but a good one. The money does not matter any more and we are working feverishly for the same goal.. At the end we can all enjoy what restored or created with our own hands and minds. :) :)

Calling for you to join it now that it has shed its wintery blanket of ice, ready to open its arms and cradle you and your craft, lazily swaying you back and forth in the sun. But you are torn! Ready to return to the water, yet desperate to finish what you have started on land.

Great line Red!

Re: Worst time of year for us

I wrote this in reference to my original post in this thread. I knew it would get a reaction. Allot of us resto hands on types are jonesing for the water right now. I have personally been dry docked for about three years now.
(sorry welled up right there...I'm ok)

Even if I were a wealthy man I would probably still work on boats. I would just have a much...much nicer shop! And maybe a house on the water. (one in the Keys...one in mountains) I love doing the work, I hate missing the water. (thats it...I need a tissue)

Do what I did...buy a used canoe while looking/working on/restoring your dream boat. That way you can detoxyfy the landlubbing from your soul in the meantime while paddling the canoe around.:D

Re: Worst time of year for us

Had to wipe the tears from my eyes while reading this thread, you took me back to last spring, while I was working on my boat.

To all who are still working on instead of using your boats:

Have faith, don't give up, keep at it, take a day off and enjoy your significant other, then go back and work harder. I promise it will all come together, and when you launch her for the first time the tears will come, let them, they will come again the first time you hit WOT, let them come, then you will crack a huge smile the first time a stranger asks about your baby, stop and take the time to let them admire all you have done. They will look at you with envy, because they have never tried to accomplish what we have. They will compliment you on you accomplishment, thank them, but not immediately, take a second and let that warm feeling sink in. You will always be able to say that this is truly your boat built with your own hands. There is no greater feeling then to pull up next to the guy with the brand new 21 foot Tahoe and know that he has half the boat you have.

My neighbors all looked at me like I was crazy when I started grinding and throwing chunks of old boat out in the driveway, but just the other day two of them commented, "not all of us can build a boat" I just had to stand there and smile:D:D What a great feeling.
