Man, you are doing a really good job with this restoration. I wouldn't believe this was your first time. Well, good luck with the completion.

Go Bucks! :D

hey Chris did you get my private message you can contact me at my email

gonein8secondscowboy@hotmail.com

I did, check yours.

I just got done sanding the outer stringers and fillets for tomorrow morning glassing. While I was cutting out my glass for this I realized that I am a freaking moron and under ordered the 1708...AGAIN! !#&^ SO, just ordered another 12 yards...god, I cant believe how much of that stuff I am having to use. Do I really need to wrap all the understructure wood with 2 layers of the stuff? At this rate I am definately going to run out of resin:redface: Man, this hobby aint cheap:rolleyes:

I will try to update this weekend but probably wont do it till Monday at work. Later

Sorry about the link send me an email and i'll send you some pis.

I was told the whole motor was rebuilt, everything new fuel lines. it has new plus but looks like old wires i'll replace those though. But all the internals are new. he put a 175 crank in it and new carbs.

I didnt hook it to my boat because i was working on it, i wasnt ready for it when it pop up and i've wanting one of this guys motor for a while just didnt have the money, but this pop up at the right time well at least i had the money. he knocked off $300 because it needs a paint job that was the last thing he had to do when the owner died, so he just didnt finsh.

I'll see about getting it to run on the stand but give me some time though i got to get an control box sold my old one with the motor it was a johnson anyway.

Man the new boat is a dream come true for me its a 79 sport craft, it needs some interior work but she is sweet. I'm suppose to take her out tomorrow. my wife is having a cow because i took the money out for it already i think 2500 is cheap. She's baby blue it just fits me well, looks all most new the old guy who has it dont take it out much about 4 times a year and i've wanted the first time I've seen it. He's moving to FL. I'll give it a good once over believe me. I have family in springfield ohio if we work something out I can come up there or halfway.

you aint lieing these hobbies will rip a whole in your pocket, but i dont know which is worst horses or boats:eek:

be sure to post them pics talk to you later, and thanks for everythingIMG_0828-1.JPG

Ok, so this is where I am as of last night(Saturday). Man, I pulled a long one yesterday. My buddy came over about 10 in the morning and left at 5 in the evening, but I kept going till about 11pm. I was able to get the two outer stringers that I had already got bedded and filleted tabbed with a continuous length of my 8.5oz cloth tape. It was rather uneventful and came out with 0 bubbles...not sure why, but this one went really well.

After that was through, we moved on to cutting out and shaping all the rest of the understucture wood. I had cut a few of them last weekend but they were only rough cut in. This time they were fully fitted to the hull shape. Here a few pics to show how this progressed.

Looking at the pictures it looks like the furl tanks is being held tight on all four sides for some reason:confused: in reality, I had done the math to allow 3% expansion in all 5 directions so there is up to an inch all the way around the tank. I am going to install neoprene around and under and over the tank before sealing it up with the deck.

Well, after doing all that work last night I was able to get 2 coats of epoxy on one side of all of the wood that you see that is raw. Then today I just got 2 coats on the other side. Once that cures I may go out and sand the hull then bed the tank support in. I dont want to install the rest of the wood because it will be in my way to wrap the outer stringers with 2 layers of 1708...I would be glassing them in today had I not ran out:( Oh well, I am however starting to get excited realizing that I very well may have a deck on in 2 weeks time!

Oh, I have to share this with you guys that have dogs. My shepherd got a bug bite on her butt and kept chewing at it until it started to bleed. SO, my wife and I shaved her butt hair off and poured peroxide on it and then an ointment. THen we put her cone on her head to keep her from licking it off. I was about to take a picture of her in this sad state when I clicked the camera, I got her right as she ran head first into the wall! Poor thing:rolleyes:

Jonezn, I think I will just have the machine work done on mine...I have already got it stripped down to just the block and bottom end as you can see in the last photo. I have also already purchased 400 dollars worth of parts for it that I put on before I found the scored piston:mad: I am going to be able to come in under 1900 with what I need to do to mine. I was thinking if you were talking 1000 I would go for it but thats about 900 more than what I will spend to finish the rebuild of mine. THanks anyway though. Someone will buy it. I am sure.

Man, im sorry to hear about that! I am having the same problem, my mower took a crap on me too...I have 2 acres and have never went more than a week between mows and here I am waiting on belts to show up for the last week and a half. My wifes mini poodle looks like a GI Joe on manuevers through the jungles of Danang everytime he goes to the bathroom. My neighbors love it I am sure! I mean all 3 belts at once, just chuggin along and screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeechhhhhh bangggggggggggg, no movey, no cutty. Oh well.

Do you happen to have any receipts or anything showing what all work was done and what parts were used? Thats a lot of money for something that I cant visually check for a proper rebuild, no offense.

Chris may have a deal for you

I've come across a blown 115 for 200, im buying it for the trim pump controls and prop, if you want to split it with me you can have the rest the power head and foot. I sometimes come across the best deal. You came across my mind i didnt know what parts you was needing. If not its cool to no offense taken.

I actually have a spar complete 115. I have not been able to find out if the pistons are interchangeable. Maybe some of the knowledgeable mercury folks here would be able to tell me whether or not a 1150 merc and a 1500 merc have interchagable internals or not? My motor is sound other than the pistons being fried. I tend to overdo things so I was planning to not only put in 2 new pistons but also have the bottom end rebuilt as well. I am pretty handy so I will do all the work, but obviously, I cant do the machining. I hate that I dont know more about the engine than I do. Oh well, after the bottom end, I will have gone through every system and square inch of my boat so I will know it all when this resto is all said and done. I like that! Thanks for thinking of me!

Well, I did some glassing tonight when I got home. I laid a layer of 1708 on the underside of the fuel tank support due to not having access once it is installed and I also put 2 layers of 8.5oz glass on the tank supports support(basically a really short stringer that runs from the bilge bulkhead up to the front tank bulkhead where the center stringer used to be. It meets up to the foward center stringer at the tank bulkhead and forms a T under the tank plywood base.

If you look at the photos above you will see that all my stringers come into the transom at the same height. Do you guys think I need to make them "knee" into the stringers? I have room and a little scrap wood left over. I could cut a 45* angle into the outer stringers and add a peice to it to elevate it higher up on the transom and then the 2 little "stringers" that make the bilge compartment could be scrapped and new ones built to knee that section in. Would this be necessary? Or benificial?

Personally, I think you have enough support since your transom isn't that tall and you have four stringers attaching to it. All you would be doing is adding unnecessary weight to the boat unless you plan on running a moster outboard. :D

Uhhhhhhhhh, look at my sig. Its a 150hp, The boat is rated at 125 so its not a huge step up but it is over...I feel that the setup that I have is already strong enough without even tying stringers in period! For giggles the other day, I hit the tranny with a rubber mallet as hard as I could and I broke the head and handle off and really hurt my wrist:redface: It didnt so much as vibrate the tranny. I think I will stick to my current setup. I was just being crazy I think.

So, how is Dayton this time of year? I used to get over there a lot as a teen to watch concerts at the Nutter center, but have never really BEEN to Dayton.
