Well, didnt get a lot done this weekend. Or week for that matter. The job I have been doing for the last 2 years is wrapping up this week and we had final inspections last week so, long hours, lots of stress= no night time boat work! THen this weekend for some reason( I made a post on someones thread about my wifes shoe habit, that is why I am being punished I know it) my wife decided it was time to remodel our master bath:rolleyes: See, we bought a complete gut of a house and I have done 100% of the work on it and to this point I am 90% done with it. 2 bedrooms need some paint and carpet and our laundry needs trim. Our master needs carpet and the bath needs gutted. We have had a whirlpool tub since the first weekend we lived there sitting in one of the spare bedrooms. Now imagine to yourself if you will a woman who likes to come out of a tub like a boiled lobster looking at this jet tub every other day while I am out in the garage playing boat:eek: I cant believe I have made it this far!

Anyhow, my buddy John showed up at about 11am and helped me unload a toilet to go and a bathrooms worth of durarock. THen it was time to clean the craphole that I have been calling a garage! Man it was a mess. WIth that done we decided it wouldnt be right to go through a Sunday boat day without at least doing SOMETHING besides eating waffles and sweeping the floor. SO, we decided to sand all the rest of the substructure wood, sand the tank support that I PL'ed down last week and laid up its 1708 cover. Thats it. So, he is going to come back over this Friday so we can do the 2 layer 1708 wrap on the starboard outside stringer that way it cures by Sunday so we can PL down all the rest of the substructure. If we dont do that then all we will be able to do is that one stringer which would waste most of the day. until then...

Feel your pain, man. If your like me, it seems like you hit hard and then stall. I always feel better if I get a bit done though.

The bad part is that I am a GO GO GO kinda guy but with my injury I have got to the point where I am GO go gone then it takes me several days to a week before I am able to feel good enough to hit it again hard. I still work on it but I cant pull the long days and get a lot of glassing done. The position that glassing in stringers puts me in is the exact wrong position for my back:rolleyes: I can do most anything while standing except lift really heavy stuff but as most of you know, building a boat doesnt happen standing unfortunenatly... Once the stringers are done things will go faster. I am looking forward to putting a deck in! but...lots to do before then.

Ok, last night seeing lowkees deck in got me inspired so I went out and tried to cut my template for mine. I dont know, didnt do bad but didnt do good either. So I laid out my glass on my outside stringer to help it take the curve a bit better and called it a night. My buddy is coming over tonight at 5 to help me get this one glassed in that way Sunday we can get the rest of the wood PLed in. Cant wait!

Got the same "kind" of back problems, except no disc between L4 and L5 and some other things "back" there. Certain positions will render me useless for about 2 to 4 days, same as you. What has really, I mean REALLY helped me was investing a good back brace for those times you know you'll be bending, squatting and climbing a lot, take about 2000mg of glucosamine and see the chiropractor about once every couple of weeks to keep yourself "tuned up." Pain isn't gone all the way, but wow, I can do a lot of things I use to not be able to do before doing following that regimen. Also, I'm 45 with an active 5 year old daughter......I'm always doing something.

Thats a good plan man. I use a brace but I cant stand it for long periods. It just gets in the way and makes it that much harder and more painful to bend. Before I hurt myself I used to go to a chiropractor 3 times a week because my wife worked for him and I got his services free! I tell ya what, I kinda wish I had never done it, I now constantly have to crack my back in the ways that he did or I get stiff as a board and I really owe that to him...I mean it feels great when it gets done but the long term effects are just such a variable for so many( like my story) that I just dont recommend it:confused: I do take glucosamine and muscle relaxers before starting along with a healthy stretching session but in the end it really doesnt matter what I do, I still hurt during and afterwards:mad: Ohwell, Just one of those things ya adapt to. I am going on 1 year and 3 months with this injury so I have learned to deal with it pretty well. The only thing that sucks is that I am now pretty much immune to pain medications:rolleyes: That, and everyday aches and pains dont even flinch me anymore. So thats a positive right?

Dont you hate it when people around you gripe about their back hurting!? Boy, you dont know pain till you have to live this nightmare day and night and have 5 doctors tell you there is nothing they can do. But I digress, I chose to take this project on, thats why I try to not complain. Hell, I still play golf even though I cant swing past 3/4. I just play old man golf now at the age of 28:cool:

hey chris sorry about you back man that sounds like so much fun  but i feel your pain i just had neck surgery last year I Herniated 4 Disc. So the right side was just paralyzed. I got 2 plates put in I'm fine as wine now, not so gun ho anymore. I do things a lot smarter now.if going under the knife is a option, DO IT...

Hey i'm looking for a hydraulic tilt/trim pump with 4 ports.
my old one dont fit, the one my buddy gave is for I/O and the last one i found the reservoir is cracked and the JB welded it, but it didnt hold or they did a bad job. I cant find any where to just get an reservoir because i would take the motor off the one for I/O and slap it on. I can find all kinds of Pump. I remembered you said you had some parts, hoping you got one of those.

Think I found my new rocket ship will keep you posted if it happens its just been all redone transon strings deck the whole 9 yards no motor or controls though.

Let me know if you can help, Thanks Terrence

Ohhhhhhhh, that sounds painful man! Jeesh, we are a bunch of broke guys arent we!?

Sorry, man, the 115 motor I have as a spare does not have T&T so, no motor or resevoir. Check www.oldmercs.com I think I saw one there.

I am about to write an update. stay tuned! Good luck finding your part. I actually need hydraulic hoses for mine.

Re: 1973 wellcraft 165 sport airslot project w/ pics

Aight, another weekend has come and gone. Got most of what I wanted to get done this weekend accomplished. My buddy John came over Friday after work to help me with the 2 wraps of 1708 on the starboard outside stringer. Having him there helped SO much. It is really difficult doing this long of a layup and 2 ayers to boot. So, I went from this

Copyofboat080.jpg

To this!

boat085.jpg

This one went slightly better than the other side. I think this was because I wasnt so worried about using too much resin cause John was there to do that for me! It sucks getting in and out of the boat for more resin every 5 minutes! The last one took me about 4 hours from start to finish and this one took about 2 and a half. We had some pizza then he took off and the wife and I watched a movie and went to bed.

Saturday my wife and I went to the Columbus Zoo and Zoombizi Bay water park! That was a good time. The reason I being this up is that I had to pay a buck to take the "boat ride" which made me realize it has been well over a year since I have been on a boat. This boat ride was a bit more tame than mine provides...no motor, just water current pushing it along at an awesome snails pace:rolleyes: But it was better than garage boating at home!

THen today John came back over and we hit it hard again. We started by getting all the pieces together on the sawhorses to brush the dust off of them and get them out of the way so we could rough and scuff the hull for the LAST time.

So after rough and scuffing

boat086.jpg

It was time to do my second favorite thing...

boat084.jpg

After that, we started re-fitting the bulkheads and tank supports due to the fact that after 2 layers of 1708 on both outer stringers, things didnt fit anymore.

Now, everything is back fitting again and is ready to be Pl'ed in.

boat089.jpg

I decided since I have some 1.5" stainless deck screws laying around, that I would predrill, countersink and snug everything together under the deck to make it easier to hold things in the right place without coming up with some crazy clamping setup while I bed it all in. Now this way, I can bed all this the week and maybe even start glassing it in by myself instead of haveing to have someone hold things for me and worrying about the PL expanding and making things misaligned. With it screwed I dont have to worry about this and with them being stainless and countersunk, I will just peanut butter over them and leave them.

Thanks for looking!

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH man, really? Dont say that man. You put far too much work in that thing:redface: That sucks man. In what way is it wearing unsatisfactorily? Dude, dont feel bad, I have epoxy runs in 3 places from where I coated a piece of wood then threw it up on the bow or across the transom corner to dry and it dripped...I have no idea how I am going to get that off without grinding it and I know that will F up my paint.

Kinda glad to hear now though about your restoleum cause I was seriously considering it. Thanks for the heads up. I havent seen your thread up in a long time. I will have to pop in and get the full scoop!

Looking good man. I like your idea about counter sinking the screws with peanut butter over. Glad to see you are making progress. Keep up the good work.

Well...what can I say*dust my shoulder off* all in a days work young man:D

Seriously, if I were a professional at this, I wouldve shot myself long ago and certainly have never started a thread! I am an electrician and I assure you, you will never see a thread where I document wiring a doghouse!

When it comes to glassing, especially with 1708, it helps to be slightly OCD:p

THanks for the compliment, so far I have been told that my resto should go in guiness and that it looks pro so I have to believe that I am doing it right! My back urges me to do a poorer job...

Here is a pic of my new soon to be baby

1975 18ft 6in open bow rider made by Chapperal.jpg

its a 1975 18ft 6in open bow rider made by Chapperal
Very nice boat of its time and today I've been told they are compared to chris craft.
And its not a tri-haul:(, but very nice and clean looks almost new its been garage kept its whole life. It has a 26 gallon fuel tank. It has a new deck and transom.
I'm buying it without motor and controls, what do you guys think is a fair price.
