Hello,

I am new here and new to boat engine. On my last fishing trip, my motor were stuck on shallow floor and i force it out. After that, the motor works for a minutes or two then it makes a pinging...clicking noise like something stuck...and then it died... after that I was not able to start it no more.

I do alot of car engine repairing but not boat...and according to my understanding it seen like the low unit gear is broken or off timing... because... when i try to rotate or turn the horizontal wheel it click once or twice and then stuck. When I try starting... the starter try to turn the wheel and then stuck.

what is broken... what do i need to replace?

Please help....fish is biting...

really need to know the year of the motor, but sounds like something in the lower unit is broken. Recently had a merc do the same thing. turned out to be a broken clutch dog.

easy way to tell is to drop the lower unit and see if the motor turns. If so then the problem is in the lower unit. Depending on the motor might be cheaper to put a used lower on it then try and rebuild that one if the problem does indeed lie there.

model # is on a decal, looking from the back of the motor, left side, on the transom mount. or on a freeze plug on the top of the block. i agree with dropping the lower unit, the shift rod, connecting is under the carbs, and has to be disconnected. this will isolate, where it is the power head or the lower unit that is the problem.

read the TOP SECRET FILE, 1st thead in this forum.

^^^^^ Agree, pull the lower. Turn the motor by hand to feel for anything binding. Then try cranking faster to confirm if motor is undamaged.

Sounds like a shaft bent or possible gear failure in the lower unit.

It is best to carry an oar to push off or get out and push free.

Been there/done that:(

last summer we launched at a ramp that had a bad drop off as the water was low so we could not retrieve there. My wife dropped me off and I drove up river to another ramp while she brought the boat up river. when she got there I asked her if she had any problem and she said no she hit one rough spot, but just powered through it. Luckily no damage to the lower unit, but you should have seen the prop.
