Re: Help needed...please....

here is the link to the manuals:

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=251571

There is a manual for the 3.0, up to 1997...and another for the 3.0 1998 and up.

Your boat may be a 1998 model...but your engine is probably earlier. Go by the serial number....

These PDF files are huge...so be patient!

Hard to tell you what manual you need without knowing if this is a Mercruiser, Volvo, or OMC 3.0L

Just why are you replacing them, coupler failure?
I use a torch to heat up and remove the center part, burn away some additional rubber remmnents, use a socket to try and drive the spacer ring and outer shell of the motor mount out.I use this item that I made to install them.

The part with the small shoulder goes on top,the 1/8 th inch lip self-centers in the housing, that is clearanced for the top of the bushing.the large shoulder part is the bottom and is clearanced for the bushing and about .010 undersize so that is applies pressure only on the outer most part of the bushing and is able to recess into the housing to allow the new bushing to be drawn to is proper spot (all the way in)
works a lot easier and better that trying to drive then in all the way and risk cracking the rear housing.

Thanks for the link, I knew it was here somewhere. Sorry...it is a 3.0 mercruiser. I have a set of tools that i borrowed and it has pieces exactly like the ones pictured to install the bearings.....

Thanks for the info.

Re: Help needed...please....

Sorry BT I missed your question..I am replacing them because I have the motor out to replace the coupler due to corrosion. I have another post with the photos on here of the coupler. The port side mount unbolted but the bolt binded in the mount and would not release. I had to whack it with a big hammer to get it out and it took a chunk of the rubber bushing with it.

Do I need to do both mounts or can I replace the bad one.... Common sense tells me to do both...

Thanks..

I think that your 'common sense', is doing you well here!

Happy boating!

Re: Help needed...please....

Ok I found the torque specs I needed.....Thanks!

Common sense will rule both mounts will be changed:mad:

Now I have to fight with the mounts...then I can tackle the gimble bearing and bellows....Since the motor is out is it easier to knock the bearing out from inside the boat? Is there any concerns with doing that?

Thanks for all the help....
