So I've never had a boat and I was looking for a project and boy did I find it!

I've been reading alot but I'm sure I'll have questions. I have most of the deck off and foam out. I have to split the hull to get the rest of the deck and floor. It's started to rain here so I have to wait. Here are a few pictures let me know what you think.

The day I got it.

All I have to do is split and finish getting rid of the old deck.

Welcome to Iboats !

I know what you will be doing this summer. Hows the transom ?

Motor run ?

That Celebrity has a nice look to it.

You will find a host of info and a lot of intelligent people here on this forum who are just as nuts as you and me.:D

Welcome to the Celebrity soft deck team.
I started pulling my carpet up last November in my 1989.
Just finished the rebuild and launced my boat and Hey "She Still Floats".
Actually had a lot of fun (sickness and ADD cure) messing around all winter.
Just waiting on the snap in carpeting and should be ready for the completed projects page. Take lots of photos.
Great advice in this forum

I hope to have the boat done in 2 months.

I haven't got into the transom yet but every (and I mean every) piece of wood is rotten so I plan on it being rotten as well.

The boat hasn't run in 10 years, to fix the deck right I have to split it anyway so the motor is coming out and getting rebuilt ( I also have to replace the transom I'm guessing). I would have just tried to get in running ( it will turn over with a pry bar) but it was sitting that whole time with no exhaust manifolds or spark plugs so it's going to need work.

I really like the lines of the boat as well!!

Re: My Rebulid 1990 Celebrity

Ok while waiting for better weather I'm getting ready to order my glass and resin.

I know I need CSM and Biaxial but where do I use each of them? I have the stringers, deck, and transom.

Also the amounts I'm going to need? When I know where I'm using what I will have a better idea.

Here is the Biaxial I'm looking at: http://www.uscomposites.com/specialty.html

What wight CSM should I be looking at? I also want to do the whole deck for strength and long life.

I'm also looking at polyester resins what about this one? It's the 435 standard: http://www.uscomposites.com/polyesters.html

I have been doing more reading think I should go with Epoxy? I don't have a problem doing a good prep job I just want it to be strong and last a long time!

Thanks for all of you help!

Re: My Rebulid 1990 Celebrity

I'm still a bit new to this whole thing, but after having a great experience with Epoxy resin I would definitely go with that. I ordered a lot from US Composites and they really packaged the contents well -- the best packaging job I've seen from anyone. They will get more of my business for sure.

I also used the 1708 biaxial cloth. Very impressive stuff, but it does take a lot of resin to wet it out.

We also found a drill-bit mixing tool was worth it's weight in gold. Cleaning the bit was easy, just dip it in a cup of acetone pull it out and let air dry. For a picture of the one we used click here.

We're only 1/2 done, and it's been a very fun and exciting project. This forum/web site is so helpful, it's truly amazing how much help this site has provided. Anymore assistance from these guys and I would just be watching them do it for me.

Buy 10 yards of CSM and 15 of 1708 biaxial glass and 5 gallons of epoxy to start. There's no cost savings in ordering twice vs. once, but there is savings in not ordering too much :)

Re: My Rebulid 1990 Celebrity

Okay getting ready for all the glass and plywood. Ugh 90 bucks is the going rate, but I found it for 75 a sheet and it still sucks!

I also got a quote on the interior and it's not good! It's 2400 without doing the back to back seats. I'm thinking of buying this set (http://www.overtons.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?r=view&i=73320). Any one used them or have a better picture?

I may just have my jump seats redone and find some back to backs that they can match.

I saw the link to Overtons. Is that the color you want red/white. I have some seats left over because my interior was remade in same colors as factory. I have a back to back and two jumpseaats. They look white/grey/red. The color is wrong. It's light gray/burgandy/charcoal. Make sure you measure your bases. They only com in 10 inch heights.

Where dou you live?

I live in Des Moines Iowa.

I may be intrested I'm just wondering if I can find the other back to back to match? You have any pictures of the actual seats?

The quote I got for my jump seats makes buying new ones the way to go!

this boat is so utterly 80's! All I can think of is miami vice when I look at your pics! That and neon lights in the shape of palm trees...man I miss the 80's...

That boat was made back when you could tell the difference from one runabout to the next! That's my favorite vintage - late 80's early 90's.

Now all bowriders look the same. :(

I do not have a picture of the actual seat. The boat is still in the upholstery shop getting buttoned up. www.boatingseats.com. Go to designer seat section and look at color 553. Its a good looking seat just doesnt match my theme. I dont want to repaint my boat after putting all this money in it for interior.

you could always get a big bucket seat or a comfy helm that matches the seats he has. Being the captain has its privileges.

Re: My Rebulid 1990 Celebrity

What do you guys do about supporting the boat?

I cant really take it off the trailer and I have it split now. I have placed some boards in the middle (across where the top used to screw in) to keep it where it's suposed to be. I also plan on doing half the stringers at a time. Then do the transom after they are dry.

Sound like that will keep it stright?

This is after I started to grind out the old stringers. The fiberglass what the ONLY thing holding this deck up the wood was all but gone.

I'm wondering how much of the trough from the old stringer can I leave in there? If I clean it up nice would it help to hold the new wood in right?

Nice pics man, looks like your on your way. Hows the transom, will you have to replace that too? As far as the trough from the old stringer, I left just enough to be able to fit the new one in (which still hasn't happened yet). Good luck on the 2 month deadline & keep the pics comin

Okay the first round of fiberglass stuff will be here on the 4th. Then I can start putting this thing back together.

I also just dropped the motor of at the machine shop so we will see how good that is.

I also started to wet sand the hull and cap. How should I go about repainting the purple to red?

Okay the motor will be getting re-ringed then that will be good to go.

I have my first round of glass stuff. I have started to cut the wood and get that all right.

Now if I could just get the 72 hour weeks out of the way and get some time off I could get stuff done!!
