My tool box is whereever the kids last used a tool; yard, street, garage floor. :D:D

I have a simple Craftsman. I replaced all the slaides and wheel with high quality. I spend the money on what goes in it.

if you ever worked in a garage/shop you will want a good box that cannot be broken into or carried off too easily.................ive even been in a shop where you had to lock your box if you walked away far enough where you couldnt see it  ........... nope didnt work there very long.

ive been through the kids carrying my tools off...............they stopped that real quick...i just locked them out of my shop .....with their motorcycles and 4-wheelers inside. needless to say after a few weeks i got my point across :D

the bad part is when you think you have the specialty tools you need only to find you had forgotten them in your box at work

ive got a few buddies that have totes they keep their tools in ..............talk about unorganized :D

Re: Show us your box!!!!!!!!!!!!

I won't dare post a picture of the one in the man cave, but here's the one that I carry in the back of my truck with me. I'm a service rep and do lots of on site work far away from any real workshop, so I like to keeps everything organized and right where I know it is. I used to have a shelf built back there, with two pull out drawers under it, but made access to some stuff hard. This is much better now. Sockets and wrenches have their own place, in the tool box are the other essentials, hammers, pliers, lots of prybars... I mean screw drivers, gloves, crimps, wire connectors, I have the bottom most drawer dedicated to chemicals like blaster, duster crc de-greasers, as well as my fluke, wiggy, and clamp on amp meter, like i said everything has a place including the odd stuff like my non-contact thermometer, zip tie tool, picks, CO gas meters,........

I wish I would have purchased the larger model with one additional drawer, funny how they're never big enough.

It seems I'm always wrenching on someones boat or car, usually in a parking lot somewhere, in the middle of the night, or on the side of the freeway so I have the rear hatch of the truck out fitted with a flood light, plus the ability to turn on my reverse lights for scene lighting by a switch, i have my rechargeable Streamlight flashlight mounted just out of picture, plus I have on board air, as well as a wired in 1200watt power inverter. The best part. Or so I think, it's all tucked away neatly, and keeps the truck looking totally stock.

A long time ago, I worked at an auto place that was this way. Always had to lock the box up. Now, I work in an aircraft hangar with my own shop and office space. I put the box inside the shop and no worries. I'm more worried about someone stealing stuff out of the planes then I am about my tools.

Man I feel lucky the only time I ever locked up my box was at the end of the day(sometimes) but always on the weekend. I have always had an honesty open box policy, you loose it or break it replace it. Has always worked well for all tech I have worked with.

Re: Show us your box!!!!!!!!!!!!

14 years ago i began spinning wrench at a new conversion van and used car dealer. It was a 2 man shop and I was lucky enough to have this guy Charlie as my shop mate. Chuck was an old timer in his early 60's, he also spent 35+ years at the same GM dealer before getting laid off. Chuck knew everything there was to know about every GM product ever made. Chuck also had worked with every type of mechanic there is to work with... from lot boys who think they know it all to true master tech's like himself.

This was Chuck's rule with me. Hands off his box, period. Or I would lose my fingers permanately from him slamming the drawers on them. It was about the 2nd thing he said to me after he said "Hello, I'm Chuck". His other rule was that he kept a small notepad in his box. If I asked him to borrow a tool he would let me and write it down in the book, and sign it and date it. He would make me initial "loaning" the tool out and we'd both initial when I'd return the tool. Kept track of things. I was allowed 3 strikes. In other words, If I had borrowed a tool 3 times he would not loan it to me any more, and would make me buy it. All and all it was a more than towards me arrangement. Alot of guys won't loan anybody a thing (and for sometimes good reason!!!)

Ahem....if your gonna show us your box, how about showing us where you keep it..:D
Or is that the topic for another thread??
Do we have a "show us your garage" thread yet?

I won't hijack this post, so here are both the toolboxes (old and new) and where I keep them..along with a little tackle room that just got built..;)

By the way..just got back from the Iboats get together and that trailer under the Bluefin just got rebuilt and painted..looks like a bomb went off in that garage!
