Magic moments you don't get without being a boat owner.

There are a few float/pontoon plaines that land on the Fox Chain, I know of 2 that live on Lake Marie and one on Pistakee. You should see them landing on the ice in the winter, they must be nuts I swear.

Wanna be fighter pilot practicing dropping a torpedo to sink your ship :D

I actually have seen fish stocked in many remote ponds and lakes by plane... they touch and dump.

Re: Man i love my boat...

I think you sum up boating in general very nicely.
Thanks for your comment. We have 5 children ages 21 to 27 and they all loved boating as they grew up and still do. They still all come cottaging each summer for the family vacation and seem to love every minute of it. They now have husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends in tow and sometimes my parents join us from England so we have 14 people away and the boat never seems to be docked !!!! (That is until it needs gas) then it's "Dads" turn.
The children seem to find being out in the boat a place where they can really talk to me / us without interruption. We have discussed many things out there over the years both good, bad and indifferent and solved a lot of their issues and worries out there on the lake.
If I get a call from one of them on a Friday evening asking if I am going out in the boat over the weekend I now know they need some 1 on 1 time to chat !!

Re: Man i love my boat...

Great thread!

I took up boating last year after being retired for 4 years. Wife and I love it. And my middle son is a high school math teacher, so we fish a lot during the summer.

When Doggreen13 opened this thread and said he paid $400 for his boat, but had maybe $2k in it by now, I couldn't help but grin. We bought our boat new. Way too much $$$. All I can say is I don't regret it... yet! Tried finding young used one, but hard to find the particular model we wanted with verifiable maintenance records.

While our cost per outing goes down with each use, it is still above $900! (You can do the math, but our 3rd time out cost $10,000!). Nevertheless, my son and I also witnessed a float plane making a touch-and-go on a lake near we were trolling at last summer, followed soon thereafter by my son catching a 5-pound northern. At my age, thrills like that are hard to come by.

That's why this thread means so much right now. As one who prefers to invest money rather than spend it, I often have second thoughts ("Oh gawd, what have I done?"). But Doggreen13, all of you in this thread, and so many others on this forum, have helped provide just the validation I need.

Boating. Yep, it's worth it!!

Re: Man i love my boat...

Never taken the motorhome and the boat out on the same trip. Tonight we are going to Yellow tail and try launching the boat with the motorhome. Wife and kids are coming with and we can't wait, leaving as soon as my son's soccer games are done. It helps a lot that it is going to be in the 80's today and tomorrow. This mini trip is to check everything out before we go on a trip this summer into Washington and Northern Idaho. We all have the bug really bad.:D

I love my boat as well. I think that anyone that has a boat lover their boats. If they dont then they usually sell it and then they dont have a boat so they can not say that they love their boats cause they dont have one.

Re: Man i love my boat...

I have an '83 Four Winns Marquis F & S with a lil Johnson 50 hp. The seats need replacing, the carpet is wore, and I never got a bimini top. The trailer is rusty.

It's underpowered but she planes out with a good hole shot(i think anyway).

With all her drawbacks, wouldn't trade my old boat for anything. Like Kenmyfam said above, the kids(mine are teenagers) feel they can talk about anything on the boat. They vent to me there.

My divorce has the boat currently "drydocked", bloodsucking lawyer tells me not to even move it.

The boat is going in for service, new impeller, carbs cleaned, plugs changed. My wife has agreed to that. Next step is talking her into letting me take it out with out her.

Great thread guys!

I feel the same way.My boat is old and not the best looking thing on the water.
Bought it for 1100 bucks and invested about 2 to 3k more.
Its all mine,no payments and my favorite place to be...out on the water..
Even when i got to fill that huge tank i know its worth every dime...;)
