hi guys....i searched but couldnt find.

got a weird problem with a omc electric shift....

the shifter interlock was bypassed due to the fact it was shot.
after the switch was taken out the boat shifted well and ran well in forward and reverse at lower rpms.

under load testing......the drive would disengauage unedr load at between 3000 and 3500 rpm........a quick throttle back and re ingauge and it was fine till under strain load.....(semi rapid accelleration) where it would slip out of gear again.

the shifter inturrupt switch is no longer avalable. so before we put in a toggle switch, i want to find out if the interrupt is the porblem for sure.

any body have suggestions on this?

cheers

Ayuh,... As you may know,.. I'm Not an OMC guy,... And the electric-shift is the Worst of the Worse...
And again,... A Cobbed Up 1 is gotta be as Bad as marine propulsion can possibly Get.....

I have read, recently about some Spring in those things, that when broken, allows that sorta action to happen...

I don't know if that'll Help, but this post will atleast get this back to the top for another chance at somebody who might actually Know something.....;)

Do you have a 400 or 800 series? It could be the shift dog is worn out. If it is poping out of gear under a load, then it sounds terminal. The problem with OMC is that they used the cheapest shift cables money could buy. And if they are not adjusted properly, they wear out the shift dog. There is only 1/4 inch of tooth on that, and when it starts to slip, It only makes things worse. I bet that is the problem. Sorry,,,,,

This is an electric shift so there is no shift cable and no clutch dogs.

If you are jumping out of gear you are more than likely losing an electrical connection somewhere. Make sure the ground steap between the drive and the intermediate housing is in place and check all the connections between the drive and your helm switch.

Not sure what you mean by a shift interrupt switch. Do you really mean the throttle safety switch that only allows you to shift when you have no throttle? You have a seperate throttle and shift lever by chance?
