its very possible that they leaked while under water,i would replace them with metal & use some soft set pipe sealant on them ,that will make sure no water gets in & make removale easier,mike243

Re: water in left pontoon

I would say no, the water didn't come in through the plugs, there is another problem, I have built 50,000 pontoon boats in the last 12 years, all had nylon plugs and none of have taken water in through the plugs, they are self sealing.

With a toon water splashes everywhere underway, you probably have a bracket weld that is cracked or another hole in the tube.

You will need to air check the tubes with some soap and water(we use Polmolive dish soap) in a spray bottle, 3-4 psi is plenty of air, do one section at a time and spray anything that is welded until you find the leak, mark it and have it repaired at a local weld shop.

One note, have the welder pull the plugs before welding, air builds up in the tube and the weld will blow out if you don't.

I too have water in my left pontoon. Were ae these plugs you talk about? I can pressureize the pontoon and check for leaks, but how do I get the water out?

I just left a reply on another thread "pontoon sits way too low at the back". This will answer your question.

My 98 Sweetwater has nylon plugs that are drilled with about an eighth inch hole in each one. It came that way and it does not let water in. I guess they are to prevent pressure buildup. I also think you will find your leak at the bracket weld areas.
