Hello all, I have a 1990 vip with a 4.3 chevy OMC with an electric fuel pump and a holly 2 barrel. I have the engine at a local engine builder and he is rebuilding due to the previous owner not winterizing at all(cracked at the top of the block and one head). I am not sure about the engine building process but he said he would be boring it 30 over. Does anyone have any experience with this and knows if the settings or jets will need any special attention? I am trying to have everything ready so when he is done I can drop the engine in and hit the water. Thanks for your time.

Shouldn't be a need for any jet changes. But it will take a bit of idle mixture adjustment.

sorry for not responding but yes I had a new block and one new head. I think the shop tried to give me a bonus by boring it(to justify the price). I don't know what to expect by boring the block but I think it sounds cool.

Boring means that the cylinder walls have been oversized, in your case .030 that is a pretty standard thing to do.

If they bore the block .030 over, who is paying for the new (.030 over) pistons?

I'll give you three guesses, and the first two don't count...

4bbl only good for 20 horses on the pre vortec 4.3.

Edelbrock intake will net a few more.

Course the question is, why not put a vortec 4.3 in while all of this work is happening?

Re: bored 30 over do I need to change carb settings?

I am wondering why when I post a question about carb settings everyone wants to chime in on what I am doing wrong? I guess there are people that get their kicks showing how supremely unintelligent they think we are. I had a post here asking what all needed to be replaced to convert to a vortec but hey, I guess you all were busy, I did not get a single response. This whole process of being dead in the water and to being back in action was about 5 days so pardon me for getting things fixed asap. Hopefully I didnt offend anyone(but actually if I did then some of what I said must be true). Oh yeah, about the 30 over pistons, I know I needed at least one piston replaced. I wouldnt want to replace just one piston( if one is bad then replace them all is how I felt), The motor is 19 years old if it hasnt been replaced before, so I was paying for them anyways. Oh yeah, thanks Don S you answered my question off the bat.
