Hey all, I need some help. I have a 1960 40hp evinrude and when i have it at full throttle it seems like it is only running about 1/3 speed or power. Any thoughts? Thanks for your help!

Sounds like you're running on one cylinder. Do a spark test with a good tester. Or remove the plug wires one by one when it is running. If running on only 1 cylinder then 1 wire will do nothing and the other will kill the engine.

49 years old, do a compression test along with the spark.

Is the carb going to full open, and ignition plate going to full advance?

Im Having the same problem with my 1996 48 Johnson. So if u pull off one plug and nothing happens and then u put it back on and then pull the second plug and it dies that means its running on one cylinder?
