I am finally getting everything back together on my 470 power steering upgrade. I didn't expect this problem... but my engine coupler doesn't align with the gimbal bearing. It appears that the engine is sitting on the inner transom plate too low.

Are the fiber washer & spring whatchamacalit the only things between the engine mounts on transom plate and the flywheel cover. It appears that the engine needs to sit 1/8 to 1/4" higher.

Help... soooo close, but yet so far away.

I can't even get the engine alignment tool INTO the coupler. It's that far off.

Re: Help - engine doesn't align with gimbal

front is lowered all the way, and it's at a crazy angle. That's not the problem. The engine is mounted too low in the back... but I didn't know this was possible.

Is it possible that my inner transom plate needs to be raised a little bit before I tighten the mount bolts? Is there a little slop between the transom plate and gimbal housing that would allow me to bring it up 1/4"?

Re: Help - engine doesn't align with gimbal

i ran into same problem on my inline 6 and it ended up needing 2 new rear motor mounts, if you remove motor mount bolt then grab center of motor mount bushing with pliers if you can turn bushing or lift it out of the rubber ,mount is bad
