1987 21ft Wellcraft shifting problems/Please help

My boat has a alpha 1 out drive and a chevy 305 engine...

She will shift in to forword but no reverse,doesnt even click in reverse...

I can drop the lower and it will shift forward and reverse but not with cable...

Did you have the lower gear case off the upper gear case recently? You have to put the throttle into full forward when you remove the out drive from the bell housing or slpit the upper from the lower gear case..

Yea,we took the lower off to make sure we even had reverse before going any futher...Im new to boats and this is my first fixer upper...

Why did you start two different threads about the same thing? You're just goingt to confuse matters and make helpful people work harder than they need two if they answer you twice without realizing it's the same person.
