Everybody complains about forum response here. I'd like to take this opportunity to compliment iboats for the work they've done. Response is the best I've seen in several years. Job well done, guys.

Hope it's not just because everybody but me is on the water.:D

Re: Forum Response

I'll second that. I'm not going to say that I don't ocassionally disagree with how some things are handled, but those times are infrequent and not of major concern.

I also "hang out" at a few other forums (different interest areas) and can say that this forum is well run. We have had a few "hiccups" with server capacity, but compared to what I have seen elsewhere, it has truly been minimal. More importantly, the IT guys that iboats has used, have been on top of the upgrades. There has been minimal downtime and the system functions well after upgrades. There are no prolonged "messes," that take days or weeks to correct.

Contrast this with another extremely well known site that I know of, that experienced constant problems for several years. Slow speed, loss of functions within the system, loss of data, profiles, etc. and outright crashes, were common. I actually gave up my membership on that site, even though I was one of the first members and one of the few who voluntarily established a paid membership, to help get things going. I have since rejoined, but only because someone bought the site and straightened it out.

All in all, iboats runs a good forum and a good online store. I'm proud to be a contributor to the forums and hope that I have used it well, for the benefit of other "boat nuts."

I have learned a wealth of knowledge on this site. Had questions answered and answered a few myself. I think it's a great site. Bravo great job.

Re: Forum Response

I have been on iboats since 2002 and have experienced very little interruption with the sever in the last seven years.Websites need to be updated often.

Congrats to iboats on the sever updating with little interruption.

What makes this a great site is the people that are here with the knowledge and expertise that some have to help others from boat repair to boat engines, from fresh or salt water techniques to dockside chat.

But like all chat sites there is always room for improvement.

i would rather think of us as an information, and relaxation site, than a chat site.

Re: Forum Response

In my experience, most server related issues at online forums, occur as a result of rapid growth. The site that I mentioned previously, went through that - it started out as sort of a hobby for the owner, who I'm sure did hope that it would take off, but I doubt he had any inkling of how fast that would happen.

In that case, the owner failed to invest in hardware and technical expertise. The end result, was years of horrendous problems. Fortunately for him, the subject matter was so popular (no, it wasn't porn), that he got away with being lame and someone with major money finally bought him out.

The difference, I think, is partly that his growth issue was exponentially larger than what iboats has experienced. That said, iboats has invested the money needed to keep up with its own situation. It has also done so in a very effective manner.

In doing this, I think iboats has maintained a loyal user base, but it has also demonsrated an attention to detail, that makes me very comfortable in doing business with them. I guess the bottom line is, if you can't run a forum well, why would nay one trust you as a vendor? Happily such problems are not an issue here.

Re: Forum Response

I've found being patient makes life less stressful. Yeah it is a problem when the site runs slow, but for the rapid growth this site has seen, iboats has done a great job over the years.
