HELLO....HELLO....HELLO....HELLO....:confused::confused:

Check my sig at the bottom of my post and you will see how to install a transom and stringers. If you wait another few weekends you will be able to see how to install a deck. You are asking extremely common questions, that is why you arent getting answers. Just use the search function and type in "replacing stringers" and the info will flow like cheap wine at a shotgun wedding.

PL construction adhesive. I have heard of people using several different types of it, but PL Premium seems to be the common one

http://www.stickwithpl.com/Products.aspx?ID=fef65cc9-47bf-4802-aaa9-a343f2ef9458

It's seems to be commonly available at most any hardware/lumber store, Home Depot etc...

PB, I am assuming is peanut butter, which is a common used modified resin, do a search and you will find a tonne of info here.

PL is PL premium waterproof adhesive. It looks like liquid nails but do not confuse the two! You can get it at the Depot or Lowes. PB is short for peanut butter but you dont put this kind on a samich. It is made in many different ways but the way I do it is to mix epoxy with a product called cabosil which is a very fine powder of silica. It thickens your resin to make a consistency of well, peanut butter or mayonaise. It is a great glue and also a way to build a fillet which is a rounded corner that it basically caulk like at the base of your bathtub surround. THis helps fiberglass make the transition from vertical to horizontal withour having to bridge a 90 degree gap. THis causes air at that gap. you dont want that air there. Make sense?

Add silica first then the catalyst, you'll discover it goes off a lot faster than plain resin too unless you get it out of the can asap it will stay there.

PL premium can be had for $7/large tube and it will stick to wood with frost on it if that helps convince you to buy it. I used it to glue in my transom..god help me if I ever have to take it out again! It's 3x stronger than liquid nails. I'm extremely impressed with the stuff. I bought 4 tubes, have 3 left after the transom.

Re: fiberglass or wood transom

You can minimize the number of hole in your transom by installing a sacrificial plastic plate.
I used a 1/2 thick polypro plate cut to fit the contour of the transom where it meets the bottom. It was cut to be flush with the hull for a smooth flow. The plate is about 12 inches wide and will accept the speedo, depth sounder, and speed paddle wheel transducers.
The plate covers all of the old drillings. These were pluged with epoxy resin and tight fitting wood dowels saturated with epoxy and were cut flush and sanded with the transom.
The plate was mounted using a thin coat of the 3M adhesive and four SS screws.
No more screwing directly into the transom.

If it gives you a warm fuzzy about using wood, see the Parker Boat site. They are a quality boat designed too for salt water. They make a strong argument for using wood for the main structural members.
