Reversing the snip....

Ok this is a VERY strange question to be asking on the forum but what the heck.....

My wife and I had our 3rd child two & a half years ago. We agreed then this was the last (both of us agreed). A few months after he was born I went and had a vasectomy. Now my wife has changed her mind and she wants another baby. She is REALLY putting the pressure on. So my question is has anyone on here had a reversal? If so, were you able to have kids again?

If anyone wants to PM me to discuss that's perfectly fine.

Thanks!

Re: Reversing the snip....

I have a friend who had it done and he mentioned it was a bit more uncomfortable than the original snip....... That was 4 years ago and it did not work. The Dr. then warned him that it "could" work at any moment ..... maybe even a few years from now.

Why not look into adopting, there are so many children that could benefit from a good family.

lady fish hit it on the head. I am an old dad 55yrs. I have a 14year old and an 8 year old that my wife and I adopted. we would not trade them for all the gold in the world. they are the best. You can do a foster to adopt as well. that is how our 8 year old girl came to us. she is a blessing. my 14 year old is my fishing buddy, and his sister just cannot wait to go.

FB, your first mistake was getting snipped. If the Mrs. was really serious, you should have had her get a tubal ligation. Women change their minds far too much for me to let anyone near my area with a knife.
I have heard the same research on reversals, they don't work... and then bam, one day can. Don't do it!

Adoption is the way to go at this point.

Re: Reversing the snip....

There are a few surgeons specializing in reversals that have a high success rate. It's intricate microsurgury, unlike the first snip which just has to be destructive.

One in Texas
Dr. Albert Rath, New Braunfels, TX

ICVR, in Denver and Phoenix, specializes in this and claims a 90 - 96% success rate. Overall market success rate is nearer 50%

hope it helps

That is an option as well. We've discussed it and have briefly looked into it. The process appears to be very time consuming and costly. What we're trying to do is figure out which option works best for us.

We've also had a string of family friends that have had unexpected pregnancies. When there has been a quetion about "keeping" the baby, we have strongly voice adopting the baby to us versus the dreaded "a" word.

So far, we're still up in the air about the reversal or the formal adoption process. Any info on either option would be appreciated.

OK, so she has changed her mind. Have you?
Sounds like she is,,,, well, a woman, never knows what she wants and can't seem to understand there are consequences for decisions that are made.

She definitely needs to seek counseling before committing to another child.
Need to find out her TRUE motivations for having another child.

Re: Reversing the snip....

A guy I used to work with had it doen - he had 3 sons from 1st marriage, and at 46 or so, got it reversed and had another son w/ 2nd wife. He did say it was more painful than 1st snip.
Definitely find out why the wife wants another.....
Good luck...

I would definitly give the reversal a try, your sex life will improve immensly , you will have to try to have that baby quite frequently ,maybe give up boating.

This may sound as strange as the original post sounds on a boating forum but if you have a brother he would be genetically the same as you. Maybe artificial insemination with his swimmers would be the easiest option?? I mean The child would still have the same grandparents and the whole nine so there wouldn't be any your not my real family issues when it the teen years!!

Re: Reversing the snip....

Let me clarify the "pressure" I talked about. What I mean is the discussions are coming up more frequently. Sometimes they get a little heated because my answer aren't what she wants to hear. For example: "we agreed when we had it done...., We have 3 kids already..... finances will only get tighter....you're trying to finish your degree....the last pregnancy was rough on you....Ok so you want a girl, what happens if its a boy.?...." All of these answers don't lead to domestic tranquility. LOL

Seriously though I think the real push is the fact our youngest has come out of the cute baby/toddler stage and is his own little man. No more cuddly boy. Also she LOVES babies, and three of her friends are pregnant. I've told her that there are definately times I wouldn't mind one more baby. They're fun and cute and our two oldest are my step kids and although I'm they're day to day "father", I'm not their dad. But the fact is, I have been snipped and its costs a lot of money for a reversal that may not work.

Personally I think adoption is our best bet, is adoption. We'll just have to do some more research on it.

BTW, I know a reversal = more sex. One of the biggest plusses for the procedure! :D

You could have your swimmers extracted, and injected. I can be done.

But you don't sound like you are ready to take on the additional financial hardship of another child.

The only thing that makes the finances tight is my wife's college tuition. I guess that's the biggest point I'm trying to get across to her is that she needs to finish her degree first.

I am serious why I ask this but why is it some women irrationally want to become baby factorys... ?
