My transom came out with a putty knife like sliding a knife through old lead paint! Then, there was two spots up high where the wood was still, ...wood..., that took me the better part of a day to get out. I mean I had such a hard time and no luck with chipping it out that I just grabbed the grinder and literally just ground the thing down from 1.5" to nothing. Took awhile but it was easier than beating it senseless with a hammer and screaming at it things like"you GDMFing piece of shhhhhhhhhh the neighbors are watching!:D

mine came out somewhat easy, no where near as difficult as yours! Mine too was waterlogged, but what I did was thread a piece of wire through a hole in the transom and use a big *** pry bar to lift it straight out.

is that liquid nails towards the left side?

Mine looked similar. Though it's funny, my "solid" parts were toward the center but the outer "wings" if you will were totally mulch. Much of mine was removed with a shop vac.

It very well could be. They used something to plug some holes. It feels kinda like silicone but alot firmer and still a little pliable. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to leave it or remove it and fix it with JB Weld.

Now you've been there, done that and got the T-shirt...I think I know what to put on it...the nautical transom term/acronym. I normally use that in connection with MIL. Now the fun part starts...really, making up your new transom and installing it will make you forget all about the removal.

Indeed. It was most satisfying sliding that newly constructed 1 1/2" thick freshly painted hunk of wood back into the boat. Course I had beat mine in with a sledge hammer because of some transom/splashwell modifications made by a previous owner but that's beside the point :)

The only thing better than the rush of putting YOUR new transom in is feeling the outboard accelerate/push your beauty up to speed during it's first splash run...priceless, who brought the beverages?

updates...updates

Well, everything is kinda at a stand still right now. The brakes in my Silverado went so that's at my friends shop getting fixed. Fronts and backs. Parts and labor for $500. I know that sounds high, but I checked prices at Auto Zone and Advance Auto and just the parts alone would have run me $420 with tax! It kinda sucks to have that expense now because me and the family are leaving on the 8th of August for two weeks at Disney World. My girlfriends a vacation planning genius- let's go to FLORIDA in the middle of AUGUST!! That's gonna run ~$3000 so I'm not too sure that me spending another $100 on the boat right now would be the smartest thing for my love life right now, know what I'm saying?!? And as Andy in NY can attest to, all it ever does is rain here so if I DID sneak out and buy my supplies I wouldn't be able to get anything cut, glued, sealed and fitted anyhow. Life's good, just not for me.

$500 for a total brake job sounds like a heck of a deal to me.

I agree I just plopped down over $200.00 for oxygen sensors before our last Fla trip and I put them in .
