This is my boat as it sits.

I have a couple of questions,
First is it wrong to paint my 270 outdrive black?

Second I am thinking of painting the whole boat to give it a more up to date look, What type of paint should I use? I have painted several cars but I here you need oil based paint and roll it on? I would like to spray.

Third my neighbor is a custom upholstory guy and is willing to help me out with the interior and my main question is I want to build a new motor cover that goes across the whole boat and put storage on each side of the motor and a bench seat in front of it. Am I going to run into any problems with heat or anything?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Nice looking boat. If the gel coat shines up be a shame to lose the vintage look.

It shines up ok but it has been used as a fishing boat for a couple old men for the last 30 years and has been banged up pretty good. Lots of small repairs.

Yes it is terribly wrong to paint a Volvo drive Merc black. Kinda like painting a Chevy block Ford blue.:D

I was kinda thinking that, I sat there for about 30 minutes just looking at it and decided to keep it the way itis (after all I did clean it up and repaint it last season) and it still looks new.

I agree, It's a nice looking boat the way it is!

It is nice but tee is alot of small repairs and on the bow there is a rather large spot where someone hit a dock that I need to repair. All in all the boat does need alot of repairs here and there and when I am done it will look like it has lepracy or cancer so it will need a fresh coat of paint.

Is it possible to use automotive paints on my boat? I have several different colors in my garage that would save me a bunch.

OMG - I had that EXACT boat for over 20 years. Same model, same color, same outdrive - probably the same engine. I assume you have the AQ130C. Your boat looks GREAT! I cant believe the little door (bottom) to the bow area is not broken.

First - NEVER change the color of the VP outdrive. It is just wrong.

Keep it all just the way it is.

I wouldn't!! Use the best marine paint you can afford, Marine paint has a differant chemical make up than automotive paint, Marine paint is designed for MARINE USE. Awlgrip, Interlux Perfection, Deltron Imron paint you can look up and read about..........Also read up on Marinetex too for your repairs...................................................Pat
