A little over a month after buying my last boat, and 2 weeks after selling it, I made an offer on a 1993 Larson 17' bowrider with the 3L 4-cylinder. 73 hours on the clock (no way to confirm) one owner and on consignment at a local marina. It comes with covers. The vinyl is original and in exceptional condition, the carpet is very good, the floor is solid and I was unable to find any signs of rot anywhere.

I've been searching for a while and every boat I look at is "in great condition" on the phone, but is a total turd when I drive to see it. This one really is in good condition and seems to be everything i'm looking for in a family boat.

I told the dealer I would take it, he didn't want a deposit but is getting it all ready for me to test tomorrow and sign the papers assuming everything goes well. I'll have it just in time for the weekend. I don't really care for the "teal" color very much, but it seems to be a nice boat.

I'm paying 3000 out-the-door, which may sound high to some, but every boat around here costs that much or more and its a rotted pile of junk... I feel pretty good paying that much for this boat.

Re: buying it...

Congrats, I just picked up my 93 as well with a funny color maybe teal that I didn't like when I first saw it but it grew on me quick and now I love it, it stands out from all the other boats.

The wife hasn't seen it yet, hopefully she doesn't mind the teal... I told her what color it was.

I think you said it all right there.....and the teal is a pretty cool color, i think. and probably wont oxidize as fast or anything as a darker color would. sounds like a good deal to me.

Re: buying it...

Last night the wife and kids met me at work to go out for dinner. While we were eating I told my 3 year old daughter we're getting a new green boat to go to the lake this weekend. She was excited. As soon as we got home she looked around the side of the house and said "wheres the big green boat dad?" I explained I'll be bringing it home on Thursday.

Im going over to the Marina at noon today for the test run, to sign all the papers, and to pay for it, then pick it up tomorrow.

Congrats! 3k doesn't sound out of line at all for a nice boat. I my area people try to sell boats with rotted floors, seats and transoms for 2k in the 17 to 19ft range. I see them on Craigslist all the time.

Re: buying it...

Everytime I see something that says "needs minor TLC" on craigslist I read "fiberglass tub filled with rotted wood"

Re: buying it...

I just bought it. Its paid for and i'm picking it up tomorrow. 73 hours was confirmed by the orginal owner (1-owner boat). It appears to be a gem in a world of rotted out 15-year old boats.

Congradulations.
3k sounds like a great deal.
I got $2500 when I traded in my 1988 17' beachcraft that had
a little rot in the floor and some mismatched vinyl.

No kidding...

withdrawing the money from the bank was difficult, handing it over was even more difficult, but now that the money is gone and the boat is mine all I can think about is the weekend with beautiful weather in the forecast... there is nothing better than turning gasoline into noise and spending time with family and friends...

Re: buying it... EDIT: I bought it EDIT AGAIN: HUGE PROBLEMS!!!!

I went to change the lower unit oil when I spun the prop by hand I noticed THE SHAFT IS BENT!!!!

I took the prop off and put a dial indicator on it, .068" at the tip and .011" at the base.

I figure the bent shaft wore out the seal because there were a few milky swirls in the oil.

I have not even used the boat yet. I called the Marina where I got it from but it was after-hours. They open again in the morning. There was no warrenty but if they dont do something about it there are going to be big problems.

Mercruiser allows up to .007 at the base.

Go get them...!
