Guys -
I'm cleaning up and painting my transom kinda in a hurry... I'm going to try to get some trim tabs installed for this weekend, and I didn't want to install them on top of old 5200, holes, and spot repairs.
So I got some fairing compound from West to go with my epoxy... ok stuff, looks just like chocolate frosting when it hardens. I fixed holes and smoothed the transom out ok, then applied some West Marine brand paint. I got lucky, and it just about perfectly matches my gelcoat. The boat's not very pretty regardless, but it's nice that the transom won't stick out a lot.
This morning I checked on the paint, and it's pretty and shiny, but still a bit soft. It was cooler here last night, down to maybe 65 or so, and I did the painting around 7, so that's maybe 12 hours to dry so far.
Anyone who has used this stuff know if it hardens more, or am I looking at scraping it off to buy something better? I realize I'm not being very patient, but at this point I'm going to end up driving four hours and installing my trim tabs at the lake in the driveway, so I'm wondering if my "schedule" is shot
So far it seems like ok stuff... about as good as the low end interlux "yacht paint".
By the way, anyone know if the "new" brightsides with teflon is worth using? I still have a can of the old stuff to finish off, but if it's more durable to use the new stuff it may be worth it...
