Hello All

I am new to this forum, and just bought my first boat.

When I bought the boat, the outboard was unhooked/unwired and laying in the middle of the boat. Reading the posts here has already helped me mount and wire up the outboard and check the lower drive oil.

I want to order a manual for the motor, but I need help to identify what year and how many horsepower it is. I know it is a Johnson Electric Sea-Horse and it has two cylinders. I have a photobucket link to a couple pics, but maybe someone could point me in the direction of the serial number/model code.

Also, while I am waiting for the manual, can someone tell me how I know if the impeller is working properly, and what to do if it is not. I ran it for about 10 seconds, but I didn't see any water coming out, so I shut it down. I am not even sure I know where the cooling water should exit.

Thanks for the great help on this site.

My guess, based on appearance is 1964 forty horsepower.

If the gearcase is shaped like a bullet and comes to a point, then it is a '62 to '66.

IF it has a blunt nose 2 piece gearcase top and bottom that screw together then its a '61 to '66.

The model number will tell for sure

It does not have a compression relief, that narrows it to 1962 -up. Further more, it has a hot water choke, which limits it to 1963 -down. So it is either a 1962 or 1963.

Thank you all for the help! I will check near the transom clamp to see if I can find the information and narrow down the year.
