was wondering what hose this is? and how much it might cost to fix? I went to the sandbar today and raised the engine and found there was alot of water comming in. Then went out on lake trimed down and no leak. Went home and seen this? Well its going to be 90 tommorw and I cant get it replaced so for the mean time im going to plug with silicone. Let me know guys starborn side of the boat the house is on and it looks like its gets skinny at the end. it not the main big hose that runs in the lower unit.

Looks to me to be the shift cable bellows, I just replaced mine last Sat at the Napa, they sell them and had it in stock for $13.95

I agree, looks like shift bellows, you should check the rest of them, the big one is the driveshaft bellows and the one in between size is the exhaust, they can all sink your boat.

Since the shift cable goes thru the bellows, you will have to pull the drive so you can get the cable out of the housing then unclamp the bellows and remove and replace, I said that kinda simple and it is not quite that simple. You should have a manual for this.

How much you think this will cost me at the shop?

AND since the drive has to be pulled I would replace ALL of the bellows.

Just my opinion.

I have no idea on the cost at the shop, never had to change bellows, would have done it myself if I had. There would be several hours labor involved at whatever the going rate is where you are, wild guess, $100.00 per hour or more.

How much do you think the marina will charge me I know its 80.00 a hour for labor. Any ideas and how hard is it to pull of the drive

I am presently landlocked because of leaking bellows and for my Yamaha I/O I am looking at $700 for the bellows replacement. If the gimbal looks suspect $1100.

I did not have to remove the my out drive at all!! I diconected it from the engine and pulled it through the transom, pulled off the old bellows and slid on the new one and shoved the shift cable back through the transom and connected the bellows and reconnected back on the engine, still cost me $13.95 and took one hour max to do it all and right in the parking lot of Napa, ohh It was the first time I have ever done it

Unfortunately $700 might be your best. While the outdrive is off the other bellows are also off and if they are not replaced they will have to be reinstalled leaving you with one you can trust and two you can't trust.

Just my opinion.

EDIT:Wavenbye got posted while I was typing. That would be your best bet IF you can do it yourself.

You are just wanting to replace the Shiftcable bellows aren't you?? Or are you replacing all your bellows, The exhaust and u-joint bellows too?? If its just the shift cable bellows you can do it yourself without having to remove your drive.

yes the shiftcable bellow is the one thats ripped so if i can just replace that without taking off the outdrive would be awesome.

I called a couple places today and they said around 400-500 dollars to replace all belows and maybe more if they need to replace the shift cable.

Def want to know if I can get this done without taking off the outdrive. And what is involved. I have A merc i/o larson all american 20ft

Re: Leaking hose. Hard to replace, how much might it cost at the shop?

If its just the shift cable bellows that you want to replace, look at the outside of the stern where it goes into the boat and locate the shift cable inside your engine compartment and up to your engine thats where you diconnect the shift cable from"REMEMBER to have your throttle at full W.O.T forward. After I diconnected the cable itself from the shift cable harness I then taped a piece of heavy nylon 1/16 inch rope(My camping cloths line) to the end and pulled the cable through the stern and out, untaped the rope, slid off the ripped bellows and put on the new(spray a little WD-40 on the cable end) it can be a little tough but it can be done, and then tape the string back on the end and pull the cable back through to the engine and hook her back up. If thats what you deside to do then let us know and we can guide you through in more detail. like I said I did it myself for the first time in an hour and it still cost me $13.95. But I had advice from right here on Iboats and thought I was going to hve to pull the out drive too , NOPE.

Nice thanks I will def let you know. So do you think it matters what boat it is and if some can be dont like that and maybe others cant be??? Just wondering. I will try to follow the cable back tonight when I get home. I think im going to have my next door neighbors friend help me a guess he knows alot about this stuff and fixes every problem he has every had on his 52' boat.
