On my Alpha One,1991 Bayliner Capri 2050cx The exhaust bellows and u-joint bellows are in mint condition, I also have the new style shift cable, so yes I am able to replace the shift cable bellows on MINE in an hour with out ruining the cable itself, I also had advice from the man who works at NAPA, he has been a marine mechanic for 30yrs, Why he is at Napa now I really don't know and it really doesn't matter to me,Thats his business, But he really knew what he was talking about and helped me(I did all the work) but he is the one who showed me how to disconnect from the engine with shift forward and came out every 5 mins. to see how I was doing, On my boat YES it can be done and was!! without taking the drive off or ruining the shift cable and it was done in less than an hour in the Napa parking lot. This is what told me that yes it can be done. http://www.mercstuff.com/shiftcablebellows.htm
And With help. I am only saying it can be done on my boat and was, still don't
know what drive you have either?? have you checked the S/N yet??

Dude, go to where I sent you.
"Mercruiser,OMC,Volvo, & Other I/O
& Inboard engine & Outdrives"

Go to the top and click on the "ADULTS ONLY" and look at Manuals #6 and #14 and go to the Maintenance section and it shows you "where" to locate your S/N for THE STERNDRIVE and what ratio it is

Hooked on phonics!!:D Thats good! OK just look on the "left" side of your sterndrive where it says mercruiser and look by your oil fill or "VENT" it is in that area, Sorry its not the maintenance section its "Important info" (b) is your gear ratio--(a) is your S/N

Yes I do!! Thank You!! The S/N are located at the same place on the 'SIDE" of the sterndrive for the upper and lower. And it even says it on my signature too:D And it is possable to have a GenII on a boat earlier year than 1992 if its been swapped out, happens here all the time, The best way to be sure of what it is you have is by checking the serial number, people buy boats with out knowing what previous owner has done to it, It's common to do your home work to "be sure" of what it is you have, S/N tells ALL

Ok So I Called The Shop To Day To Get The Shift Bellow. Called 3 Diffrent Places Until I Found On That I Can Pick Up Today And Dont Have To Order. I Asked The Mech If They Have Every Replaced A Shift Bellow With Out Taking Off The Lower Unit And There Replay Was All The Time. One Guy Said That You Would Be Stupid To Take Of The Lower Unit Just To Replace The Shift Cable, Would Create Alot More Work And Time For Your Self. Soooo Is There Anyone Out Here A Mech That Can Say They Do This Or Is Everyone Just Thinking Me And The Other Guy Are Crazy Still. Lol :)

how many threads do you have going about this?... http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=345994

what's up with the caps? hard to decipher

at some point, you have to make a decision and live with it....

sorry didnt notice that untill you just said somthing kinda weird but any way there is 2 because they started off as diffrent threads and wanted to make sure all knew the news I got. I have made a decision to let my buddy do it for me with out taking of the lower unit and he said its a peace of cake. If you dont care about this post simply dont read it. Can be great info for other people that are open minded.
