Sorry, you're right. I misunderstood. But I very highly doubt that SuperTech is recycled. Refining recycled oil costs considerably more than refining from crude. This cost will go onto the consumer, which we obviously know it doesn't with SuperTech. In fact, most of the used oil that is collected is not re-refined, but rather it is burned off in some fashion as an energy source.

Re: Walmart 2 cycle oil

Just an update on the status of Pennzoil at Wally World. I stopped by my local store today and thay had Pennzoil full synthetic 2 stroke oil. Strangely enough, it was in the automotive section, not the sporting goods section where it normally is. Along with that, they also had Quicksilver full synthetic and Evinrude/Johnson full synthetic. I'm forgetting the prices now, but I think all three were about $28/gallon.

In the Sporting Goods section, They had only the Super Tech dino oil (about $11/gallon)and the Quicksilver, semi-sythetic.

I thought this arrangement was a little strange, but that's how they had the oil shelved. I didn't see Pennzoil semi-synthetic anywhere.

At my Walmart a gallon Super Tech 2 stroke is 10.97, a gallon of Penzoil 2 stroke is 13.97.

We used to have a similar argument when I worked at a Standard Station in High School. You couldn't hardly give away the Atlas brand plugs, filters, oil ect. At that time you could show people the back of the box who made it. Champion made all plugs, Fram made all filters. Some people still didn't care and would pay the extra money for the name brand. Same goes for oil and gas. Anyone who thinks that 7/11, quickiemart, ect. use any different fuel is obsurd. Like said above the proprietary additives is the only difference. Same goes for oil. There not a refinery thats owned by the "Cheap Junk" oil company that markets to off-label brands. Just like fuel it only has to meet minimun specs so there may be an additive in a brand name oil that makes it a little better, I don't know. But regardless if it meets specs for your use, use it.

a gallon of Penzoil 2 stroke is 13.97.

At 13.97, that would be dino oil. I think I know the stuff you are talking about - it might be their general purpose 2 stroke oil. I believe its TC-W3, so its good oil, but just not the semi or full synthetic.

I ran Pennzoil semi synthetic in my motors for years, until Wally World stopped selling it. I've been buying bulk XD-50 at my BRP dealer lately, but always felt the Pennzoil was good oil. If Wally World would go back to selling it, I would probably use it again.

The $13.00 price is for the synthetic blend, I used it for a long time.

I ran Super-Tech all last year in one of my rigs, which has since been sold. As has been said countless times, there's nothing wrong with running this product in a carbureted motor. If i had money invested in a motor with any sort of fuel injection system, I'd run a better oil.

I wish my wal-mart carried anything other than SuperTech, though. I just paid $39.99 for a gallon of XD30 at Gander Mtn. Fortunately it's enough for 48 gallons of gas, which should last me a whole season in my current rig.

That's crazy price. I can get XD30 at the local marina for $19.99 a gallon. Yamalube runs $21.99

Oh, I'm aware. Not a lot of marina's around here, not a lot of competition. When we go up north, we pay $3 a pint. I'd buy a case if i could find it for $20 a gallon.

let's not forget that WALMART IS THE DEVIL

But I do try to buy the most expensive things I can find in WalMart just to Stick It To The Man. Ha! Take that.

I am turned off from off-brand oils since last winter however unwarranted. I moved from Arctic Cat, green, expensive oil in my snowmobile to the Mills Fleet Farm brand which is much cheaper. The cheap, blue stuff makes my EFI Sled back fire, bog and foul plugs.

Are you talking about the Pennzoil semi-synthetic that came in the 2.5 gallon jug? I used to use that too, but can't remember what the price was.

Yes, but that price is for the 1 gallon jug.

No, actually it is not. At lease it does not say anything about being synthetic on the front of the bottle. The 13 dollar price, 13.95 to be exact, is for regular 2 stroke oil, which, according to everyone else on this thread is the EXACT SAME STUFF as the oil availabe in any other bottle anywhere in the country regardless of the brand it says on the bottle.

The product I buy (or used to buy) at Wal Mart was the synthetic blend, said so right on the label. Not sure what you buy, but that's what I bought for years there. The price started at about $9.00 per gallon and the climbed to the $13.00 range at the end right before they stopped carrying it.

Well I don't know how long ago that may have been, but right now, in Tennessee, a gallon of Super Tech conventional 2 stroke oil is 10.95, and Penzoil conventional 2 stroke is 13.95. The Penzoil synthetic, not sure if it is full or a blend, is 24.95 for a gallon

Re: Walmart 2 cycle oil

Have to agree with Emil on the price I paid 10.95 for 1 gal of supertech yesterday.

From all the research I have done on this before it seems that Walmart oils all come from the Pennzoil/Quaker State/Shell refineries. All 3 are a conglomerate and the supertech may be one of them or a blend of all 3. They just bring trucks into the distributor for packaging.

Just a side note I found really neat. I was talking to an old rancher friend of mine a few months back. He used to roughneck in Penn. They had to use there own vehicles to check the wells. Rather than buy fuel they would run crude in the model A's. Claimed they had to use ether to start it but once running it would stay running on crude oil (so they tried to only start them once a day). Completely irrelevant but I thought it was neat.

Re: Walmart 2 cycle oil

Wal Mart sold the Pennzoil synthetic blend for a very long time (a decade or more) and it a was only a couple of bucks more than their own SuperTech product. This is not the full synthetic version at $24.94.

It was what many people on this site used, but about 8 months (longer in some locations) ago they stopped reordering it and closed out (discounted down to about $8.00 per gallon) what they had left in stock. A few locations still had some, but it became very difficult to find. I would buy it if I could find a place that sells it.

Re: Walmart 2 cycle oil

Emilleme75 is right - the Pennzoil @ $13.95 is dino oil. Its a mutlipurpose TC-W3 oil. I just made a pass by both Walmart and Academy Sports to double check what they are offering. I'll post on it tommorrow, when I have more time.

ondarvr, you're still not wrong though. I used to buy the same oil, but I bought it in 2.5 gallon jugs. I believe the price per gallon would have been right at the price you speak of. It was a synthetic blend and it was great stuff. I ran the heck out of a pair of Johnson 6hp motors, and later a pair of 1958 ERude Bigtwin 35hp motors on that oil for years. The only reason why I quit using it, is because Wally World stopped selling it. Since that time, I have been buying BRP XD50 in bulk.
