I'm new to the forum, but I'd definitely buy 2 calenders, one for me and another for my Dad who got me involved in boating. He can't go out on a boat anymore, but loves to come outside and watch me work on mine.

I love the restoration idea!


I'm also a member of a golf forum, they sell coffee cups, putter head covers, ect....., all have gone over quiet well.

I think a calendar would be good. Is this just drumming up the intrest or are there plans in the works for actully doing one?
I agree with a poll to get the formats and picture selection. Or has admin. decided one way or the other already?

I think this is a great idea!! I like the members boat idea. You could put maybe 4 a month in with just a simple caption in the corner like...

Why not multiple themes?? 4-6 pics on each month and every month have differant themes "ourboats", "Restoration", "Repair", "Boat scenic on the water", "Happy family boating pics" Etc.. 12 pics from each theme with 6 on each month, A variety of differant Themes for all the benifits that the Iboats forums provide. Since most of work on our boats during the off season why not provide 10-20% off coupons with each month of off season stuff just for the heck of it, Hey it was worth a shot

I really like the idea of pictures of member's fully restored projects - boats I have seen on this site are literally better than new. Truly inspirational !

My vote is on choosing twelve recent, finished projects each with 4-6 pictures, 2-3 smaller ones showing un-restored boat, progress and 2-3 larger pictures showing off the finished result.

Well this is my opinion as far as the boats go, Something old, Something new, Something slow and something fast, Something in the process of being restored and something that has been restored. Now for the engines, Inboards and outboards of both new and old, Fast and Slow, and may be a rebuild pic of both.

keep the ideas coming, we are definitely working on logistics, and all that stuff that goes with this. it will not be an overnight thing, because when we do it, we want it done correctly.

6 boats, six different categories (fish/ski, bowrider, cruiser, etc)

For each, one old (1970-1990) and one new (say 2000+), keeping the brands the same and the boat as equal for the times as possible.

I know pre 1990 isn't really "old" but to keep in context, as most folks don't daily use a pre 1970 boat (I said MOST, not all).

That's my idea, even though it leaves out my '94 Bayliner

From the sales aspect of calendars and product, this is spot-on. Calendars are everywhere, so some differentiation and incentive are important components. Promos should be on every month and relative to what may be needed for that season, however, managing those in a web store is different than with a walk-in store where coupons are actually presented. Promo codes are posted everywhere once released, so the calendar could be printed with an incremented and unique promo code for each calendar/month with a 1-use restriction in the database which would eliminate the code being shared (unless the owner didn't want it) which in turn drives sales of the calendar.

If I were selling the calendar, I would definitely be partnering it with some sort of promo for the store, magazine subscription, etc.

I just looked at a calender and it reminded me about this thread. Still hoping that this idea makes it from the drawing board and into production!

could someone estimate a cost, then maybe we could prepay and order them first to see if the funds are raised? then if not enough people are in, you can refund the money? just a thought, maybe too much work.
