I wear deck shoes everyday wether I am going to be near the water or not . They are comfy look half decent and I have yet to slide in them ( hang on need to find some wood ) Ok thats better .

So those will grip on a slimy, algae covered boat ramp? Small price to pay for safety. I'll happily buy a pair.

I noticed it yesterday at the ramp. I saw a couple guys sliding and I was pleased with how well my shoes gripped. The comfort factor is another thing, when I first saw them I thought no way would they feel good, but they do.

One thing, order a full size larger. They are cut small. I wear an 11, and got 12s in these and they fit perfect.

Well, I may have to look it those shoes as well.

I am usually very sure footed, but we all get had from time to time. I put my boat in one day and tied to courtesy dock, parked boat and was heading back. Just as I was stepping in the boat onto the front casting deck, a wave, from an i di ot not paying attention to the no wake zone, hit my boat and caused the toe of my flip flop to hang on it. Also my flip flops were wet, so as I tried to catch my ballance with my other foot on the deck, my foot slipped on that flip flop and right out of the boat I went on the other side (SPLASH!!!).

So, you can say that I fell in the boat and out of the boat all at the same time...

Yeah, launching on our abortive maiden voyage and I was unhooking the bow when I slipped on the wet ramp, in probably 6 inches of water. I was either quick or lucky, and went down sideways landing on ribs and then my elbow.

Two weeks later, my elbow still hurts, but at least I didn't crack my noggin.

I'm sitting here waiting for UPS to bring me my replacement Blackberry - they don't do well when they go in the water... I slipped in about 6" of water and fell towards the boat and landed on my chest - right were I had placed the phone to keep it high and dry....

I had mine on my belt at the time... I got really lucky with that one, because it didn't get wet. Of course, the dry box was on the boat, safely stashed under the console.

i own a computer shop and we have a process we use to clean, remove corrosion and dry laptop computers that have been subjected to spills but we have had a lot of success in repairing blackberrys that have gotten wet providing it wasnt dropped in saltwater or a toilet no offense but if it was in a toilet we dont want to touch it either lol if you want to pay for the shipping anyone on the forum here that has had that happen to them i will do my level best to fix it for you at no charge. if it werent for this forum i would have given up on boating before i even got started, so its sort of a pay back for me if your interested drop me a line or just ship it to

I used to recover flood and smoke damaged mainframe and mini IBM computers (million dollar stuff). I got so good at it that IBM would re-certify a computer I had recovered without question except for ordinary maintenance acceptance diagnostics.

The solvent of choice to remove a contaminant is the same solvent that deposited it. Usually that was water. Picture me in a 3 piece suit, directing a crane to lower a system/38 from a fire escape of a shoe factory in Boston to the sidewalk, then opening the gates, and hosing it down with a garden hose rigged to the nearest fire hydrant. Then I used up a half case of water displacement product (Expensive, high tech WD40) to soak it down.

I did that, then had it packed up and shipped back to Minneapolis. After I disassembled the entire machine, cleaned and dried it, and reassembled it, it ran flawlessly with only a few replaced parts, mostly switches. Took a month, profit for my boss about 100,000 back in the '80's.

I did recover one machine that had salt water from a cooling line dripped on it till it flamed out. That one was a real bear to fix. It was a 3380 hard drive system that was worth about a hundred grand, and we bought it for 5. Wound up with a month and about 35 grand in parts in it. According to IBM maintenance records, it was in better shape when I had it re-certified than before it was killed.

Back then, a 1 megabyte memory card weighed about 3 lbs and cost 10,000 dollars.

Damned, I'm gettin' old.

Those shoes look like a rip off of Keens. but all foam.

I love my keens, except (and those shoes will do this too) getting sand and pebbles in them. You cant get them out because of the toe cap, nothing will flush out.

They aren't foam. The uppers are some kind of rubber, with the sole being a different material.

There are several different methods of drying electronics that have gotten wet, but the most critical step (so I've heard) is to remove the battery before taking anything out of the water.

Even if it's in the toilet (hey, YOU dropped it, YOU retrieve it), take the battery out first and then take it out of the water. This prevents short circuiting as the water drains away.

If it's dropped in salt water, remove the battery, take it out of the water and then flush as soon as you can with fresh water and then proceed to the drying part.

Seems like every first outing I end up wet. When I bought a canoe I took my daughter out. had a great time. Brought it back to shore (no ramp) let her out weight shifted aft and current swung the bow around I moved wrong and over it went. I had my cell phone in my PFD and it never went under water.

First time with the jon boat I fell victim, literally, to the ramp algae. Scraped knee and bruised ego.

I got back to the dock one day and seen a guy standing in his underwear cranking the boat on the trailer. It was about mid 40's at the time. I asked my girl (she met me after I came off the water) what happened? She said (trying to not laugh) they guy in the underwear was standing on the bow when they approached the dock, the driver set it in reverse as it hit the dock, and the guy flew over the dock and in the water.
