Howdy,

Is that a question or a statement of fact?

You're going to have to be a little bit more specific.

Definitely a statement of fact.:)

Welcome to Iboats. Lots of AQ125 owners on this forum.

How much oil are we talking about. If its an oily film, it could be coming from the breather tube from the engine, blowby.

I don't know where else it would come from.

Let us know what you find.

The breather is supposed to vent gasses from the crankcase. It sounds ike you're getting quite a bit of blowby. Running with the tube disconnected probably isn't going to hurt the engine any further - just be a bit messy. A compression test will most likely tell you how bad the rings are.

Check your compression and possibly do cylinder leak down test. Will tell you a lot.

Re: volvo aq125a 1983

Book says compression should be 146-174.

If all cylinders are between 135 and 150, you may have a slightly tired but very runnable engine.

Can you clean the oil trap? I've never worked on one.

I would consider replacing it. Maybe its clogged up and not functioning properly.

Re: volvo aq125a 1983

re-checked compression with good battery. Now have 150 on all four cylinders. When i plug the blowby tube, oil comes out on bottom of distributor, where it bolts to the block. Is this good or bad? thanks for any help.

Re: volvo aq125a 1983

If the oil is trying to come out the distributor shaft, it sure sounds like it's excessive blowby. Your compression numbers for that motor aren't terrible but the observation sure sounds like bad rings.

Re: volvo aq125a 1983

by plugging the vent your not allowing the pressure in the engine to escape. Now its escaping through the distributor hole.

You don't have too much oil in the motor, do you?
