Re: prop problems

Well, I raised the motor one notch and the boat did seem to get out of the hole better, but 2 people still had to sit toward the front of the boat. Even though two people had to sit at the front of the boat, they did not have to sit as far up towards the front of the boat.

I found out when I turn the boat quickly from left to right the RPMs start to rise faster and the boat gets out of the hole fairly quickly.

I might try to raise the motor another notch or I might try a jack plate.

Looking at your original pic -

The motor is way low. You didn't mention what brand prop you have so it's kinda hard to make recommendations as to what to expect as you go up.

The motor isn't running as good as it should be.

Open exhaust on a crossflow generally reduces power unless the motor is dry stacked.

The prop is a Solas HR Titan.

How do you know the prop is not running as good as it should be? I had a couple of mechanics check the motor out and they say it runs like a top. The boat goes about 45 MPH after it gets out of the hole.

What do you mean by open exhaust on a crossflow generally reduces power unless the motor is dry stacked?

The motor isn't running as good as it should be. There's lots of exhaust residue and unburned fuel in the exhaust areas. All those things indicate a very rich running motor. It also appears the exhaust has been opened above the AV plate. There shouldn't be any ehaust reside in that area on a stock motor.

Why is it when I turn the boat from side to side quickly the RPM's rise and I am able to get out of the hole fairly quickly?

Re: prop problems

That's not unusual, it works that way with some boat / prop combos.

Is in not unusual that by turning the boat from side to side is the only way I can get out of the hole without having to shift our weight toward the front of the boat?

Re: prop problems

There are several scenarios that will make that to be a way to vent the prop. The current top rpm is too low, the motor is too deep, the pitch is too much or the motor isn't running right. Ora combonation of any of these factors. Venting or slipping the prop will allow the rpm to come up quicker. In this case I'd look at making sure the motor is running as it should in stock, as produced form.

I don't think the WOT RPM is too low because the WOT RPM is at about 5600.

The motor should be running right because I had two mechanics check it out and they say it runs like a top, especially after they rebuilt the carbs.
