1973 Johnson 9.9 stopped working

I have a 73 Johnson 9.9 long shaft new to me this year. It was working the other day and all of a sudden stopped. There were remnants of a plastic plastic bag wrapped around the propeller. I unwrapped but still not working. Any thoughts? it seems like no one wants to work on something that old.

Did the motor overheat or was the plastic just wrapped around the prop shaft?

Does the motor turn over freeely? Pull the plugs and pull the starter rope. While you have the plugs out, check the compression and spark.

If it's got gas, spark and compression, it has to run.

Start ffirst by reading the "top secret" files. Ths will get you headed in the right direction and give you a troubleshooting flow chart.
