Hello, I have a 78 Starcraft V5-22 that I don't know for sure what Model it is. It has a center console, a 240HP 4 barrell Ford 351 engine and a OMC outdrive. The title says 250 HP but the motor decals that are in excellent almost new condition say 260HP. It is 22' long and all aluminum. The trailer is all galvanized tandem with surge brakes and 2 5/16" ball. It is a deep boat! I don't know what the V5 stands for and there are alot of models like super sport, Islander, and so on via the NADA site. The fuel filler is on the left side of the boat and I would imagine is a big one! I was told this boat went to the Gulf of Mexico once a year and sat In Northern OK the rest of it's life. Any insite to what model boat I have would be greatly apreciated and any leads to links to see pictures of ones like it would be excellent for me to restore it! Any idea on value would be great too!

5 Speed your boat sounds like a Mariner which was the Starcraft Aluminum center console boat for several years . We need some pictures of her and also if you would go to the user CP in the upper left corner of the screen and update your profile with your location ( us Starcrafters like to know where each other is ) :D Welcome to iboats and once we see pictures :D The Starcraft Club.

I am green with envy!

If you have a late 70's model Mariner with a Center Console....

Wow, I never expected to see brochures! I went through all of them for many years and deffinately not a runabout. I didn't see a mariner. I did see a super sport but my baot ia probably double in depth than that on for like ocean waters. I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 4X4 2500 quad cab with large tires on it and a topper all the way to the tailgate and when the boat is hooked to the truck... the top tip of the Vee is above the top of my topper! This boat and trailer combo is HEAVY and thats with no gear or fuel! All the boat has is a box looking cover for the engine, a double wide seat that folds for storage that sits just behind the center console. There is a raised floor section in the front about 8" high or so. There are rails from the Bow back that are about 10" tall in the front tapering to the rear. It's mostly whit with blue striping and blue carpet...

Hello, yes I have the Mariner! I looked at those, but mine is much larger than those! The pic of the one hooked up to the Ford truck...the top of that boat goes to the top of the tail gate. Mine would go to the top of the cab! I don't know if it is the I/O engine combo that makes mine so much bigger? My boat is listed as a 22' and the V5. What does the V5 stand for? Its faded and I thought it was V8 LOL! The trailer that the boat is sitting on is full Galvanized and has alot of rollers... like at least double what the restoration one has and its a tandem trailer. When the rain goes away, I will take pics of my boat and you will then see how much of a monster it is! I need to replace the plywood on the inside of the transom that supports the 2 teak wood swim platforms. I also need to do something with the engine controls..they are seized up. My engine exhaust exits out the back below the platforms! I can't wait to hear it run! I bought it as is without an outdrive but complete otherwise. Grove marine told me the engine runs great as I did't want to run it without the outdrive and water muffs for cooling. I'm glad I found you guys and we can learn from each other! I am an aircraft mechanic of 20 years so Aluminum boats with big rivets are right up my alley!! Thanks guys for all you have done in one day!!

Lets see some pictures of this beast! I think V5 was what Starcraft called their deeper V hull. Some of their models came in regular and V5 flavor. That hull of yours will probably slice through the chop like it isn't even there.

Hello, yes I bet your right! The angle of the hull is more acute also than the 21' Mariners I've seen so far. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the V5 is Vee hull 5' deep! It has a 96" beam too. I'm 6'2 and I can't see in the boat with it on the trailer! I'll see if I can get just a pic of the outside for you all to see. The weather finally got cool and rainy here in OK!

Starcraft Boat.jpg[/attach] Here is my baby! I have the OMC 800 outdrive and propeller off another boat that I need to install but I wanted to replace the transom plywood first.

5 Speed your right that is a mighty deep hull there . I bet it does handle the surf well though with that deep bow.

I need a ladder to get in and out of it in the yard! It is a monster! As it sits... the bow is above my head when I stand next to it and I'm 6'2".

5speed, In the late 70's Starcraft started doing all kinds of different stuff with the larger boats. The boat you are describing sounds like a mariner but the pics look to be about the size of the 60's model 22 foot hull they used in their runabouts and cabin boats. Looks like an Islander hull. Maybe it was a special order or something? I'd really like to see some pics with the canvas off when you have the time. I have a 66 Sunchief that's 22' and an 89 Mariner that's 22'. The Sunchief is way higher in the bow than the Mariner.

We've also seen some huge cabin boats from that era and none of us has ever found one in a brochure. Try giving the folks at starcraft a call and they'll probably send you a scan from their brochure on that boat if they have a copy.

PLEASE post some interior pics for those of us who need to know these things:) :)

BTW, that's gotta be an awesome CC.

The picture is decieving. I have straps going acrost to support the canvas with PVC stand pipes to support the straps/canvas. The boat is all open all the way to the bow. The center console has a double seat behind it that folds forward for storage. The engine cover is nothing mor that a carpeted box. Simple as simple gets! Up in the bow there is a raised section of about 5 sq feet and about 8" tall. I can't wait to hear the exhaust note through the dual outlets in the transome!

Right exhaust.jpg

See one of the two exhaust outlets below the teak platform...

If your going to stick around a while......get familiar with photobucket.com. Create a free account there, upload your photos, resize them to the forum acceptable size of 640x480, and link to them from here. MUCH better than trying to deal with iboats strict photo requirements and your pics will look much better.

5speed the Starcraft V5 hulls have five chines underneath and were basically designed for the ocean. They had a V5 SS in '79 that was 22' that is very similar to your rig. They handle the waves great.

Nice CC good luck with the resto:D

LOL North Beach thats why we made Mike ( Huron Angler ) an honorary member of the Starcraft club long before he actually had a Starcraft :D. He is a wealth of knowledge on these boats . I did my homework but he actually did all the extra credit work for the class ROFLMAO.
