Re: HELP!!! stocking gas to my boat

Rolling 400 plus pounds up and down the dock is GOING to beat the crap out of the decking, And that's going to upset the marina owners. Probably want to see if they'll even allow it. Bear in mind, a marina is private property...you can't just do whatever dumb idea strikes you. Also, I'm pretty sure this is illegal from both the EPA and local DNR ( or your states equivalent )viewpoint.

A yacht with 400 gal tank, and he wants to save money by bringing 55 gal at a time????. He really needs to buy a boat he can afford.

point out to him, he saves 25 cents a gallon. $100. he spends $300 for the special barrel. then 3 men to handle it. for an hour. 3men x 2 hours = $42.00, then the liability if they spill fuel into the water or start a fire on the dock.

it ain't worth it. they burn the dock, his and other boats. plus the polution fine.

Re: HELP!!! stocking gas to my boat

I think the reason is not that he wants to save a few dollars per tank.
The yacht owner might own waterfront property where the yacht is docked 24/7.
The nearest marina or fuel dock is maybe several mile away.
His yacht is so large he has a difficult time maneuvering it into the marina and getting it to the dock.
If that is the case then he can consider a properly permited and installed, bonded and insured, etc. onsite fuel tank near the yacht dock. And have fuel delivered via proper fuel truck.
If it is gasoline, most fuel delivery of such is with all taxes included. Some states allow you to file for a taxes rebate of road taxes. Whereas diesel seems to be allowed to be sold without road taxes.

Lots of fun with this one and true he may have "more dollars than he does sense" as my grandmother would say, unless he has a private pier.
At my hunt club we had an inground tank, about 800 gallons, at the dock, but were told 15 years ago we could (a) pay about $1100 a year to "license" it or (b) move it up near the house for $1,000 one time. Guess what we did. We keep it about half full, filled by the same company that delivers fuel oil, and pump into 6 gallon tanks or jerry's for our small boats. Nearest marina is 10 hard miles away; nearest gas station about 5. we submit for the tax refund. The delivered gas is a little cheaper than the current retail price but it is well worth the convenience; there are 12 families using it.

So if this guy is on a remote property, as someone said, it would be worth the cost, for the convenience, to have an on-site tank. Delivery to the vessel by 55 gallon drum makes no sense, though; he just needs a long hose.
So if this guy
