Hello all just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Ross and I just recently purchased my second boat. I had a 1997 Sea Ray 170 fish and ski and just upgraded to a 2002Wellcraft Martinique 2600 cruiser (I Love it). My boat name will be (haven't gotten the name put on yet) "La Reyna" (named after my wife Reyna) which means "The Queen".

Lake Pleasant is the only lake I have been to here in the valley but now that I can overnight I plan on visiting all the lakes in the area as well as Powell, Havasu and Lake Mead.

I have read through quite a few posts and think the information here is great.

It will be nice talking with you all.

Thanks,
Ross

Welcome aboard! We live in Surprise and boat Lake Pleasant as well. This board speaks for itself and is priceless when it comes to available information from very experienced boaters.

Good luck with the new boat, Powell is a trip that you MUST do. We did a 5 day trip last September, nothing like it.

Welcome Ross

The Colorado chain has so much to offer. I'd like to start exploring it all over again.

jaxnjil - That's a great photo..and they've moved all the docks twice since then - for the 100th time - :)

hi 12v; in one way the lake levels being low, lends to seeing a lot of country you wouldnt other wise ever see.

Yeah, I am a low level lover as well. Different beaches and formations at every level. The biggest downside to a low Mead is not being able to power into the Grand Canyon, ramp issues are another. The Canyon deal is huge.

Welcome! I have family in Carefree and always wondered how lake pleasant would be. I drove to it once without the boat just to take a look around. looked like a really nice lake, very organized ramps and such. This is a great site, it has saved us hundreds of $$$ and taught priceless information.

I live in Anthem and I can be at the Lake Pleasant boat ramp in less than 20 minutes. Because of its close proximity, I consider Lake Pleasant to be my primary lake, but I also visit all the lakes surrounding Phoenix. There are some great boating destinations in the desert. I boated Lake Powell for the second time last August, and I am looking forward to scheduling another trip in 2010. I can be at Lake Powell in 4 hours from my doorstep. The local lakes are fun, but Lake Powell elevates boating to another level. After my first visit to Powell last year, I made up my mind that every boating season needs to include a trip to Lake Powell.

We mainly boat Pleasant as well, but like you said, Powell is a completely different animal. We were on a houseboat last year and had a wonderful time. Will you be renting a houseboat each time you go, or do some sort of camping near Waheap? I think it would be fun to bring an RV and camp out near Dome Rock and spend the day iin and around Warm Creek exploring and doing water sports.

Sometimes when we go we aren't on our week on the houseboat so we just camp on the lake for 5-6 days up the san juan river arm or the like. Its a great place to spend quality time with the family and can be done cheap compared to disneyland etc. Instead of renting go to KSL classifieds and look at some of the great deals to be had on houseboat time shares, if you plan on going at least once a year you will save yourself and your guests thousands of dollars. Have other couples you bring pay a good fair rate and it only takes a few years to payoff your initial buy in, then you can go for just the dues(generally around $1,000 per year) do the math and it is a no brainer. One trips rental will buy you in and pay for 2-3 years dues on the right boat. Isn't Powell great :]

I am too cheap to rent a houseboat, but I do agree it would be a lot of fun. We usually get a hotel room in Page that supports RV parking for the boat trailer. We launch every morning and retrieve at the end of the day, but that only takes me a few minutes.

A few years ago I camped at the Wahweap campground. There is weed that grows all over Page that leaves behind nasty goat heads. The goat heads have huge thorns on them. They are everywhere. After popping some air mattresses, and picking goat heads out of the dogs paws, I will never camp at Wahweap again.
