There is no reasonable reason to be dinking around trying to fix a busted spring as common as that one. Besides, it will probably break again if you do.

The part number is 307563 from any Evinrude dealer in the world. OR Sierra Marine 18-6501 right here at iboats---but it says they are out of stock. I hate it when that happens, but there are many other people selling Sierra.

or if you want to try to use the old one anneal about 6 inches of the broken end with a propane torch until it's red hot and let it air cool. bend the annealed end around a 1/4 inch bolt or rod in a vise until you have a hook and give it a try. i retempered the end when i did mine but i think soft is ok. good luck. jon s

I fixed one of these tonight. I held the band with vice grips about an inch from the end. I heated the end with a propane torch and bent it just like the old piece was bent. Cold water to cool it and it works fine.

They are cheap and easy to find. Only about $10. But I had one break on me in May and I had no spares so I MIG welded it and last I knew it's still holding. I know it was cheap but it saves a 45 minute one way trip to the OMC dealer. I have since ordered several and I now have a supply since last May when it happened.
