I just bought this motor from my boss. It was bought new by Fisheries & oceans canada and it was in the water once(and that was freshwater). It was to big for what they wanted so you know the government they stored it until now. This motor is mint mint mint!!!! I bought it for $300. But what I was wondering, can I race modify it and put it on a hydroplane? I want a hydroplane or some other design so i can kick *** in our short shaft open-modified class. The fastest boat is 50mph. Please help with boat designs or engine mods.

You'll never get that kind of speed out of it unless you can figure out a way to splice a quickie style lower unit onto it and jack it up high.

I agree with TD. You have a rare find! Post pictures, and keep it clean. Find an early 70's fiberglass 16' speedboat in good condition and marry the two.

Yeah, if I went over the dam at the end my 'lil pontoon boat might make it up to 50... briefly...

You guys talk like 50 mph is impossible. Up here on our boats 50 mph out of a 30-40 hp is slow. Maybe you should come to New Brunswick Canada and see how its done. Or could you even find Canada. If you dont believe my I'll even post videos in the spring time with a radar gun. Its not impossible you just can't be scared to try new things.

Too funny. Other than FR and I, this was an all Canadian thread. I feel somewhat included, as I can literally see Canada from the front porch, and it is close enough to hit a golf ball over the boarder.

Take off to the great white north, eh? :)

You laugh, but yes, it is the same place. The boat house picture in the avatar when when I bought the place 3 years ago. It leans more now! The cottage is on an island about 65' x 100'. Over the past 3 years I have stripped off 7 layers of shingles, re-sheathed and roofed it, gutted everything inside to the studs, re-wired, re-plumbed, added a look-out on top, rebuild many exterior walls, new windows, changed the layout inside, all new doors, new siding, installed insulation and electric heat, etc. The current project is hanging drywall. Bear in mind all this was done by myself and some friends, and all debris and supplies need to be hauled by small boats due to the shallow water depth.

Someday that boathouse will have to come down, and a newer one built.

The front porch is about 65' North of what you see in the picture! :)

Please do. It must be down in Central America somewhere, as everyone keeps telling me how warm it is there.

And a 33 is not a rare find up here. The 40's are a dime a dozen and the 33's are pretty common also. The late 50's 35's are also quite common.
