Start with a boating safety course....

Much of the required gear is covered..

Re: Just purchased boat

Where do we begin ??
Let's start with. Did you test run the boat and motor before you bought it ??
There are many on board items that you need. Did it come with anything ??
You need to let us all know exactly what you have, how it was tested and any other information you can tell us. Photos are great as well. You will get all the help you need here.
Congratulations on your purchase.
A Mod may move this to a more suitable section as well.
Welcome to iboats

I had a fiber form but it was a 23 footer cuddy cabin. Nice boats. Hope it is all ok but most boats of that vintage have issues.
Enjoy your boat!

A boating safety course will answer most of your questions. Other answers can be found right here just by brousing around.

Congrats.

the safety course is the best answer. us power squadron or uscg aux. have the best classes..

also, check out your states dnr website. they'll have the rules and regs and the must have items listed for your particular kind of boat..

Re: Just purchased boat

first fiberglass boat I ever had was a early 70s tri-hull. I discovered much to my dismay that the only "accessory" I needed for it was a chain saw.

Most of those old boats were not constructed very well by today's standardsor even the standards of 20yrs ago.. Mine "looked" good but had some severe rot in the stringers at the transom that the splash well prevented you from being able to get enough pressure on to tell it was bad.

About the second or third time out a buddy noticed the transom flexing when ever I applied power to the engine... by the end of the summer it was delaminating and a crack appeared at the top of the transom right under the engine. Parted it out and cut the hull up. Upon doing so I discovered that every stringer in the boat was rotten..yet the floor never felt spongy.. the fiberglass sheath over the stringers was still intact and they had given enough stiffness that you couldnt' tell the thing was rotten by walking on the deck...
