In almost 20 year in the offshore industry I have only ever worked on one boat with internet access. Even then they had the access tied down so tight that you couldn't get to anything anyway.

This site is educational and is actually relevant to my job. Other employees surfing entertainment/fun sites have reported seeing the mouse pointer moving around without their controlling it

Unfortunately at my office we have a barracuda system that denies access to anything that seems like fun. That's why I take the laptop and go wireless sometimes. Wide open then.

I wish I had internet at work. Every thing is done by radio phone and is expensive to use. It can be done but I don,think it will happen. Just come on in the evening to see what the chat is about.

There are plenty of metrics in place that measure my department's performance. As long as we're getting it done, nobody cares. A lot is expected of us. We do that and more without complaint, often on our time.
