Lordy, that's a monster!!

Really really hope he took the pix and released her to keep her genes in the gene pool.

A really great replica mount can be made from the photo, if the pic isn't enough.

Yes, I get that. But I think it was harvested. One of the photos with the concrete bait tanks in the background has the dorsal fins laying down, and that is far from the water - and ice fishermen don't typically have livewells.

But as a breeder, that would've held a lot of eggs, never mind that Champlain historically had a huge walleye harvest in the 1800's, but that was severely damaged due to commercial overharvest. So it is nice that there is comeback of larger, fishable walleyes here, and a good stocking effort.

I hope he put the old dog back!

Probably not- in order to be record in Vermont, the fish has to be weighed on State Certified scales. The locations of the photos indicate that the fish was far from the water- or ice I should say!

With more intensive management attention, Walleye are much more populous in Champlain than they have been in recent years and size has gone up as this fish shows. There will be others. But I do get the point- too heavy of a harvest of large fish impacts natural propagation.

That would look nice on the wall!

But the BIG dent in the bank account won't look so nice.

That's a whopper for sure. I thought the state record in walleye country would be bigger. The record in Indiana is 12lbs something. A guy caught a 10lber last month thru the ice using tip up. I'm sure a lake as big as Champ has a lot more giants that size swimming around in it. You guys up there are really lucky to have one of the best fishery in North America.

Great fish, but caught everyday up in Canada. My son has caught one in the 32 inch range every time we go up. Always put um back. We just keep the under 21 inch good eating size.

:) Yes I know. Some have found it hard to believe considering my login... but I never really fished it until last year- big water, small boat - mine's the one in the foreground.

You have to pick your days with a small craft.... Also, believe it or not, I have never yet targeted Walleyes or bass in Champlain either! Just salmon and trout. That will probably change this summer.:D:D

I Dunno. Pardon the pun but something looks fishy about that paictue. Just the way he's holding it, especially his left hand. Not saying it's not true but in these days of photoshop, etc, I've seen a lot of doctored pictures. Any independent verification?

Thanks, Mark. I was looking for exactly what you answered. In other words, there is verification.

Mark the Walleye start running early in the Summer in the Southern end of Champlain..... from where the bridge "used to be" ;) down to the Ticonderoga Paper Mill.

Thanks- I have a South Bay trip in mind come May 1st :)

Looking for landlocked salmon as soon as the ramps open up.

Need to find a motor for the 19' Starcraft and stop worrying about it. Can't sell the niagara to finance it either as my 14-year-old daughter forbade me. Besides, I like the idea of having two boats, and the Niagara is a wicked good boat for its size.
