Ayuh,... Duane, I suspect as soon as a Mod. finds your post, it'll be edited...
Personal info is illegal here...
But, Anyways...

The Best deal going anywhere, barge None,.. even used,...
Is clickin' on the Mercruiser tabs at the top of this page,+ finding an SEI aftermarket lower for your boat...
They're Cheap,....
Used is a Gamble...
Rebuilding, nowadays costs more in labor, or tools if ya do it yourself....

If it was just prop and skeg damage it can repaired with a skeggard and a new prop or recondition your prop. I knocked about 2" off my skeg last summer and put a skeggard on. Works and looks great and simple to install.

If you had an aluminum prop on you most likely just damaged the prop and not the whole driveshaft.

ok found a good lower with a upper case from a friend ( 100.00 ).. I got it all put back together today and went about 15 miles with no problem. On the way back I was about 30 yards from the ramp and throttled back and BAMMMMM the upper gears ground each other to pieces. No water in the lower drive gear and no water in the bellows but the upper gears are toast.. Also it wouldnt tilt up for a few minutes then all of a sudden it started working again.. I cant see why any of these problems happened. there was a little water in the upper gear case but I thing that came from the seals on the bottom from vibrating. The upper bearing was toast also. Keep in mind I went atleast 15 miles before anything happened.. I really need some help with this. im lost.

Ayuh,... A vibration,+ water in the case is reason enough to smoke the upper....

Re: alpha 1 generation 2 lower drive unit needed

well i bought the little pump tool from mercruiser and pumped oil in until it came out the vent hole. the water was clear and came from the area under the top cap with the rubber thing in it. I talked to several people and they all seem to think the upper bearing came apart and caused the shaft to wobble and let water in through the bottom. then with the mix of bearings and water destroyed the upper gears. I found another deal today and im going to look at it this evening. The guy says its a brand new complete stern drive gen 2 never been in water or anything for 700.00. He bought it for his boat and never installed it because someone stole his boat and it was never found. Its is hard to belive but im going to look none the less. Do these units come with the oil in them or not? Im going to take the drain plug out and check the magnet either way. is there anything else that would be a good indication if it's new or not?

Here's what mine looked like from Sterndrive Engineering. It came in two parts:

Mine was not a Gen II, but it should be obvious if something is brand new or not. If it is brand new, then that is a great deal. To be honest, it is such a great deal it would raise my suspicions... ... but that's just me.

Here's a link to the SEI sight, http://www.sterndrive.cc/index.htm , you can probably find their breakin instructions. The capacity for the drive is around 38 oz, plus the reservoir if yours has one. The early ones didn't.
Best thing to do is get 2 quarts and fill it by the book. You will loose some, so don't cut yourself short.
