It will run fine without the generator, as you may take it off once you find out what the belt costs......

I was able to free the flywheel on my 1968 with a puller and it didn't free until I gave it a few good hits with a mediium sized happer. I let it soak for a few days with liquid wrench penatrating oil.

I put some good tension on it with the puller and gave it a couple of raps and it popped free.

When putting it back together do not forget to TORQUE the flywheel nut with a TORQUE WRENCH to the specified torque value or you will shear off the flywheel key, gall the crank end and maybe break the points cam.

Gotta tell this story (again). A guy came to our shop and bought a set of points. Looking in the box and finding the capsule he asked what it is for. My co-worker who was selling him the parts answered dead-seriously "You swallow that pill 15 minutes before installing the points. It dialates your eyeballs so you can set the points without a feeler gauge". Still wondering how long the grease affected his digestion.

I'll have to keep that in mind. I always wondered what that was for. The only drug that you can actually take with beer.

ok,,this ddd things i did today,,,first,i was setting my points on the low side of the lobe,,,,kept taking the flywheel off numerous times checking all the armature apparatus,,,finally read the book a little closer and did the right thing,,,she had heaps of fire,,,,had to prime just a lil to get it flowing,,i had picked up a clean looking beer bottle and put some premix in there,,got a straw with the finger on it technique and put some in the carb,,,started up ran great,,then the carb started pouring gas out of the front,,maybe float stuck,,,,,i started walking to the truck to get my book to start troubleshooting and had the premix beer in my hand well,,like a habit,,i took a swig ,,a good one,,,then thought i was gonna die,,,after it was all over,,i got a good beer and was soo glad i had that mixed 50:1,,,cause pure gas wouldve sure killed me,,,

HAHAHA nothing like little 50:1 to wash down the oil capsule, gas don't taste so good. Was like me a few weeks ago and taking a no look drag of my smoke and burning my upper lip. Was the fuel tank hooked up while you did this or was it just gas poured into the carb?

use a solution of 50% transmission fluid and 50% acetone instead of pb blaster or anything else. This has been proven to be the best solvent ever.

yeah,fuel tank was hooked up,,i even let pressure off of the tank and tried it,,,same thing,,thinkin about the float or needle not seating,,,,yeah,if i knew i was gonna swig the gas,i wouldve just blew it into the carb instead of using the straw,,,man i feel really weird,,,burps are like 2 stroke exhaust,taste wise,,,dont smell as good

I guess that is why I never put fuel mix in beer cans or bottles, because I like to drink a lot while I work.

Even while I'm half lit, fixing these old motors is as simple as taking a swig.

Live and learn.

I swallowed gas once, Burped it up for weeks!
Anyone that says they like the smell of gasoline has never swallowed it.
8-10 years later and it still haunts me.

A side note, i picked up a collection of syringes to aid in things like this. (no needles of course)
works good for sucking on vacuum lines, or, injecting gas into carbs, oil into cylinders, etc etc.

The gas will eat the plunger after a little while, but keeps gas out of my mouth.
